(Quote from uncleglennie) Isn't the Inner Core big fun?! Six hours is pretty good for your first time through the gauntlet, so don't feel bad! It took me much longer than that, but I mapped each system thoroughly before going on to the next. I was looking for the GMG wrecks. Anyway, I already told you how to survive the Inner Core in SP... fly a BullpupMk3 and evade most attacks. You still have to fight a few, but pick your fights. The dual thrusters rock for evading pesky Doms. Thrust, turn, a…

Right, you did well, uncleglennie! (Quote from uncleglennie) That is your quest, right? You are supposed to be looking for the GMG explorers (and try to bring them out alive, if you can). However, as Spiky says... after all of the work in finding the wrecks (and surviving long enough to do so), the loot is a little disappointing. Unless I missed something, such as fuses on some of the pilots. In other words, not all of the pilots were still alive when I found them. It might feel more rewarding …

(Quote from Michael) Cool. Finding a wreck can take a very long time, so maybe the fuse could start when you rescue (tractor) a GMG pilot? That way, the player may have to choose between trying to find more pilots, or just getting back to the GMG station with the pilot(s) in his cargo hold? I expected more of a "finish" for getting through the Inner Core... maybe ten million credits per pilot -- or a gunboat for rescuing all four -- something like that. I brought the pilots that I found back to…

(Quote from uncleglennie) PerfOptions.ini is in \My Documents\My Games\Freelancer. It contains Diificulty_Scale, as well as the options set in the F1 Options screen. The default is 1.0. If you want to make Coalition Rogues a serious challenge, then turn it up to 2.0. But I am mostly kidding about setting Difficulty_Scale to 2, because most people find Crossfire challenging enough. (Note that any adjustments that you make to any file are for SP only. Changes are not allowed in MP.) .

(Quote from SWAT_OP-R8R) yes, cloaking equipment would be a cool reward, as well!

(Quote from uncleglennie) Why did you enter the Inner Core in the first place? Use an old Saved Game to go back to the GMG base in Omega3. Read the News and talk to the bartender. He will explain the Quest to you. Depending on where you saved your games, you might have to go back as far as Utopia to kill aliens again, in order to re-set the mission. Don't worry about going back to Utopia -- it will be easier for you this time, now that you have been through some tougher fights. If you are not f…

(Quote from uncleglennie) haha! Well, there is certainly room for improvement, uncleglennie, but you bring up a good point. The Outcasts are some of the toughest pilots in vanilla Freelancer, and they don't live long without their Cardamine masks. So, yeah, medication may not be such a bad idea! PS: Use The Force, unclegennie. Timing is everything..

(Quote from Bond) Why bump, Bond? I distinctly heard uncleglennie say that he was "done".

(Quote from uncleglennie) I sometimes think that is his favorite part!

(Quote from uncleglennie) Why not use the published CF Maps? .

(Quote from uncleglennie) I see... "exploring" the systems. Yes, that is definitely a fun challenge! .

(Quote from uncleglennie) It is clearly a Quest, although it is not in disguise. The Quest is to find the GMG pilots who went into the Inner Core before you (and bring them out alive, if possible). That Quest is the only reason you have for entering the Inner Core. If you were not following that Quest, then you would have no reason to enter the Inner Core at all. .

(Quote from SA_ARROW) Perhaps I should have said: The Quest is to find the GMG pilots who went into the Inner Core before you (and bring them out alive, if possible). That Quest is the only way that it is possible to enter the Inner Core. .

I am sorry to hear that you are still having trouble with the Inner Core aliens, uncleglennie. They are hard, for sure, but definitely not impossible. Here is my favorite method for handling them: Space Jousting The main idea is to stay out of range of their weapons by using longer-range weapons (DKAs) on your own ship. The encounter becomes quite a bit easier after you have picked off one or two of them.

(Quote from uncleglennie) Exactly. One "habit" of the NPC's is that they alter their tactics depending on your distance from them. At short to medium range, the enemy that you target evades, while the others will follow you. At longer range (more than 1000 units, but can be farther), they re-form a "wing" and head straight at you. This is scary because 4 enemies firing simultaneously deliver a lot of firepower per second, so you have to be careful to turn when your shields collapse. Ideally you…

(Quote from uncleglennie) I am a little bit surprised to hear that you have not yet been able to kill any of the Inner Core aliens, UncleGlennie. They are difficult, but not that difficult. You have been trying for a couple of months, haven't you? And you did so well at overcoming many obstacles to get this far. I am wondering whether there is something fundamental getting in your way? For example, are you getting good frame rates in combat? Some of the Inner Core systems put a big load on your…

(Quote from Brett) Good, your Bullpup MkIII is perhaps the best ship in the game for exploring the Inner Core in Single Player mode. If you are playing the Multi Player game then, of course, you can just ask for help. Read through this thread from the beginning. It is loaded with great tips. For a quick first reading of this forum, you can skip some of the "noise" by reading the dialog between UncleGlennie and me (Bullwinkle). I tried to consolidate a lot of the best tips for UncleGlennie... so…

(Quote from uncleglennie) Yes, UncleGlennie, it certainly takes a lot of hours to master the Inner Core. As I understand it, that was one of OPR8R's goals -- to make Crossfire increasingly challenging as you get deeper into the quests, without making it impossible. I have played a lot of Freelancer, and Crossfire is the most challenging winnable mod that I have ever seen. There are some crazy situations in other mods that are probably not possible to win, but Crossfire has the perfect balance. …

(Quote from Brett) Would you stand a chance? I can pretty much guarantee that you are going to get clobbered on your first few attempts. I don't know anyone who went into the Inner Core, solo, and thought that it was immediately easy! After that, it depends on how fast you learn (smile). In MP, most people go into the Inner Core with wingmen (perhaps a trainer or hired escort or clan mates). In SP, it is a different game. When you go into the Inner Core by yourself, most of what you know about …
