Well that's your problem, vacuuming. Stop doing that and all will be fine. As people have said, HDs are pretty difficult to destroy completely. There are companies that offer recovery services for dead drives and they can be fairly reasonably priced (if it is not a RAID system). Good luck with getting your data back.
