Yeah I once had something similar with Norton, it was causing many lags and other painful things, then I found the Norton's registry entries and I deleted them, together with the whole app, as deleting only the app won't completely work. Then later I started to use Avira's AntiVir. A good, but slow to update antivirus, which is better than AVG and Avast! and faster than them for me.
