Mine did that a few times when I first got it, I have an Acer Aspire 9302. It did it intermittently, but usually a restart solved the problem. Also trying to power it up using the battery sometimes got the screen to kick in. On mine it had something to do with power saving, my laptop (for some reason) was cutting power to the screen to save power. If the screen isn't coming on, but the laptop is running, maybe you can hit Tab when you boot it up, and (if you can remember the sequence of buttons…
