    Wow, this got hostile fast.

OP: All I said was that this mod is the most difficult one I've ever tried to install. I don't understand why you think I need to earn the right to make that judgment.

You can go ahead and ban me now if you want, I said all I came here to say. The support was a nice bonus.

Following the instructions provided here on the forums has led to four failed installations and five reinstallations of Freelancer and FLMM. Yes, I followed them exactly (at least the last three times).

I don't know if deleting my old save data was necessary, but I couldn't get Crossfire working until I did. Maybe something else was the problem and it got fixed somehow at the same time, but that's the sequence of events.

The other three guys did fine, and this is probably my last post anyway. Crossfire seems to be running fine now. Fifth time's the charm?

    Thanks for your help, everyone.

Two problems. First is the one I've already posted, about how frustrating it is to install this mod.

Second is actually getting it working. I got it going last night after three reinstall/patch sequences, finished up through the Ashcroft mission, then quit and went to bed, and this morning it won't launch. I try to start it any way and all it gives me is a second of the loading animation on my cursor. So I've purged my save files and started over, currently installing Crossfire to my FLMM folder.

Spiky- - I got SP working briefly, haven't tried MP because I'm using a pirated CD key after losing mine in a move.

No, I mean even moving them didn't work. Had Freelancer at C:/Freelancer and my old saves were in My Documents, and I still couldn't get the game to work until I deleted them.

Updates are fine, but when I have to spend forty-five minutes downloading them after spending forty-five minutes downloading the 1.7 patch, it might be time to just update the 1.7 patch. And no, Single Player wouldn't successfully launch until it finished patching.

Don't ask me, that's just how it worked out.

Vista, but I didn't install Freelancer to the Program Files folder, which is the root of every compatibility issue I've ever encountered (aside from System Shock 2's, but that isn't really relevant here).

MagicDave - Good to know. I'll try that sequence next time if this one doesn't work.

I didn't like the whole having to delete all my save games bit (moving them didn't work), or the having to reinstall everything (including the game) in an order that didn't start with the game (only mod that I've ever used that required that), or the patching in the launcher instead of just updating the 1.7 patch.

On an unrelated, the scrolling banner of multiplayer rules is really annoying when it appears in single player.

I'd at least like to be able to browse the forum without registering, since this is the only place I've found that gives support for Crossfire.

And no, I tried that. Ended up having to uninstall/reinstall Freelancer and FLMM twice, since the first uninstall didn't remove everything.

EDIT: MagicDave - I got it working once last night, but the second time I tried to launch it it didn't do anything, not even start a process. Currently reinstalling everything.
