Hum, I'm a newb and I recognize I don't have the right to come here and, well, give advices but uh, here we go anyway: many games/mods/movies/books are ruined because of the hype, the fans have great expectations for something that isn't even close to being finished and that may be a problem for the developers sometimes... my solution to problems like that is simple: don't tell them you are working on a new version/project or don't give them any details. Just... keep it secret until you are finished...

Yes, that is an unusual suggestion, but I believe it is the best way to prevent such things from happening. Of course it's useless to try it now that everybody knows and anticipates 1.8, but at least it might be useful for future updates or projects.

some anti virus programs can't decide what it is so they scream "VIRUS!!!!!!" at you.

Yeah, I thought it was for real the first time, but a quick search in this site made it clear that it was a false alarm.

    I'm using Avast.

Actually, I don't have an orkut profile, I used to have one, but deleted it some time ago... it wasn't useful for me, just an annoyance, thanks for the invitation anyway.

Oh, by the way, I'm sure you have heard this a lot of times before, being the creator of one of the most successful Freelancer modifications and all, but I'm going to say it anyway:

You did a great job, OP-R8R, the graphic improvements (lighting), new sounds, ships, etc are simply awesome, npcs are really tougher now, the systems I found were a bit... empty, but beautiful nonetheless, each of them makes it worthwhile to explore, with wrecks and free nomad depots (a good way to grab some loot without worrying about reputation or fighting someone) "hidden" in the horizon, the new systems breathe new life into the good and old Freelancer, I'm enjoying it -- and I'm not even out of liberty yet!

The only complaint I have is about the amount of credits you get as a reward for giving escape pods to the Prison Ships. I jumped in a fight between an Ageira convoy and the Rogues, beat the Rogues, got the pods, went to Texas, sold the pods...

I went from level 2 to 27 in a matter of seconds, the only thing I had at the time was a Starflier with two Justice laser cannons (it is on the screenshots) and suddenly I had enough money to buy a Defender and equip it with Vengeance cannons, Windstalker Missiles, Starkiller Torpedoes and the full gear! I mean, this is a shortcut to higher levels, for those who don't like to spend their time in a Starflier or Patriot, until they have enough money to get a better ship and leave liberty, but it's unbalanced in my opinion...

Well, you are the one who decides if it is fair or not, just my thoughts. Congrats on your success and thanks for your efforts. :P

Well, I found something, the infocard bug is related to anti-virus protection somehow; I was tired of that "Warning: trojan detected" thing everytime I launched crossfire, so I turned it off for a while, and then the infocards were normal. But when I returned for another session a few hours later (and had my anti-virus up) they were missing, blank, again.

So, uhh, I guess that is the solution, if you have blank infocards, try deactivating the anti-virus before playing (hope that advice wasn't already given, if that is the case, sorry, didn't see it).

Fire_Wolf: Yup, it's very difficult to find another brazilian out there... specially in forums. saudações de florianópolis, SC :P

It's working now, I downloaded the installer from SWAT Portal and it worked perfectly, my previous installer was from the Mod DB page of Crossfire, it looks like their version of the mod is badly corrupted.

    Thanks for the tips guys.

Alright, I tried reinstalling everything again but nothing changed, so I downloaded that 1.7a patch and launched Crossfire, this time the mission objectives and description were visible, some escape pods on my cargo bay had infocards, while some other loot didn't. I'm not sure if the patch helped me.

There is no infocard for my ship and some mission objectives are messed up (instead of the message: "There are more liberty rogues at the mission waypoint, go get 'em", I got: "Fort Bush>Planet Pittsburgh", a trade lane name).

Maybe I should download the installer again... this is tiresome [sigh]

Hi there, I downloaded Crossfire yesterday, had a bit of problems with the installation (the "Trojan detected" anti-virus problem, a few bugs, etc) put finally managed to make it work... well, almost.

The infocards of my ship, weapons, cargo and even the description of missions and objectives are blank.

    Here, take a look:

Unless this is some sort of extremely secret operation, there is something wrong here..

How am I supposed to know what I am up against?

    No information on my Starflier.

    Nothing to see here.

I tried to find a solution in other threads in this forum, but this seems to be a new problem, I would greatly appreciate any kind of help.

(By the way, I did follow the installation steps described in the Crossfire manual)
