is there a way to get cf to work in windowed mode?

i've followed the guide step by step to 13.

its says that the launcher must say v 1.56
but on the window title bar it says 1.6
and the text in the top right says v 1.7

i are confused am i up to date? or do i need to manually download a patch?

yeah, reinstalling everything from scratch and following instrucitions religously seemed to do the trick

xp sp2
radeon x1600 512mb
amd 3200+
1.5g ram

did the install steps up to 11. when i try to press "launch cf sp" or "lauch cf mp" the launcher goes away, and nothing happens...
