If you lost your password then this is your fault and you should not blame anyone here

Oh, got it. Thanks for the great advice. [6]

As for "clean install" I followed all the directions to a T and the game launched fine at first and even hooked up to the GS until the launcher kept trying to download update after update every single launch. So my guess is, the launcher screwed up one of the DLs (law of averages I suppose) and corrupted my install. This after only about ten minutes of doinking around with it. "Complex mod" doesn't do any good if it drives you away. I hate like hell having to reinstall a game, especially one that takes this long to get loaded and updated. And then there are no guarantees that it won't pull the same BS over again. That launcher is the problem, that's my guess. Downloading stuff every time you connect, that's a new one for me. That's just asking for trouble.

Well, I downloaded this mod and went to go to multiplayer. This "launch" routine kicked in and downloaded some "patch" files. I waited, then I clicked through to get to multiplayer and, as usual, my firewall asked me if it was ok to connect. As I always do when using a new multoplayer game, I clicked "Permit" and set the filter rule to "always allow," then shut down the game to restart (I use Kerio firewall and if you do not restar t the app, it will keep prompting over and over, so I restarted). So I restarted, and the "launch " routine went and downloaded more files -- this time it downloaded over 100 files. (!!!) I found that slightly suspicious, since the Crossfire launcher had just "patched" the game a minute earlier. Then the firewall asked if it was OK to replace the app. I said yes. So I went and tried to get on multiplayer but was getting a slow response on the global server and shut the game down for awhile. I came back and tried again a few minutes later, and now, everytime I click "multiplayter" button on the "launch" window, I get an error message saying "Problem starting multiplayer ... [E5]. ALso, every time I try to start Freelancer, that "launch" window keeps trying to download more files. Every time. It wants to download files. Over and over again. Every time I click it. What the hell?

    I use Windows XP SP2.

And by the way, I also tried that patch on your download page that says its for people that don't get the multiplayer launch button. I installed that thing and still I get the same error message in the popup box.

Another thing, I had registered a while back with a username that I liked, and I lost my password, because I never had time to get into this thing. When I tried to click the "forgot password" buttoin to get it resent, I got sent to an "error" page that says something like "you need to log in so you got sent to this useless page until you do," How can I login without the password? And How do I get my password emailed if it asks me to log in when I try? THat's pretty screwed up.

So I re-registered with my new user ID. See what is says. Can you blame me?

EDIT: By the way, I also tried disabling my firewall completely, but after the launcher goes through its download routine, I click the "multiplayer" button and still get the popup box with the "Problem starting multiplayer ... [E5]" error message. Even with the firewall off. So, I don't know. Not too user-friendly of a mod, it seems.

EDIT EDIT: Oh, and I am ready to drive my fist into the monitor after looking at Piccard bobbing his head for the last twenty minutes.
