If you're playing Normal SinglePlayer, then something's wrong w/ triggers. just reload ur autosave. the problem should fix all by itself.

in 1.7 the Crossfire storyline is done in quests. Read the news.
Don't know about window mode. Maybe there's an option in Settings -> Video... Why do you need the window mode?

-w MAY work for original FL, which launches instantly after clicking on the shortcut. But CF has a launcher, that launches CF in fullscreen. Editing the launcher may help...
Hagar, if window mode is possible for original fl, then maybe if the launcher had a "launch in window" option, CF could be launched in a window.. -
