I'm the mysterious Lars that Wedge keeps mentioning as a character witness. My entire experience with him is as follows:
While making runs in New Berlin for cargo/money, I noticed a character who was using an obscene phrase as their name. I also noticed that the person it was addressing was also on (Gunny) and that he was located in Texas. I then noticed that two more people logged on, also using character names intended to cause problems (from GAY clan). I decided to suspend my current activities and head toward Texas. In route, I was whispered by Wedge with questions regarding pods and finding the most expensive ones. I whispered back that he could try Manchester or Vega and go to the prisons there for targets/missions. He also had some questions on where he could find level 10 sheilds and sheild generators (lvl10). Those answers I did not give him. The "conversation" lasted about 8-10 "back and forths", then I informed him that I had other business to attend to and wished him luck. By this time I had completed my business and started to head toward Texas using the trade lane gate just outside of Hamburg (planet). I was beginning to enter the trade lanes, but distracted by typing conversations (must learn to multitask), I had "docked" to the trade lane gate at maximum distance and had to slowly approach it. I had activated the tradelane, but before I could get close enough to enter, Wedge flew up and entered the gate. I had not been scanning for him,nor noticed him on my "important info" icon scan. By the time I had entered and reached "warp speed", Wedge had disappeared from my scanner up the trade lane. This is probably normal, but I freely admit I do not know if my advanced subsector scanner should have reached him. By the time I reached the jump gate to Hudson , Wedge had jumped through and the gate was starting to close. I followed and had him show up briefly as I entered Hudson, but he had already reached speed in the Trade lane and disappeared. Of course, he entered the Texas Gate ahead of me and I had to reactivate it to pass through. I traveled directly to Houston were I just sat and listened to the conversation between Gunny, some BGs, and the three "trouble makers". I never "saw" Wedge again.
I am not skilled enough to recognize most, nor was I looking for, speed mods. Wedge was a far better pilot than I was (heck, who isn't) and that was no doubt at least some (if not all) of the reason he left me at trade lane junctions. I did not observe him in "free space" on cruise, nor see him in battle. My conversations with him were in regards to the level 10 items; annoying , but no more than many new players to CF ask me. He was to the point, but not rude during our very brief conversation. No money changed hands.
So, as a character witness, I fail. I cannot say if Wedge was causing problems or cheating. Nor can I safely vouch that he was NOT cheating. All I can do is defer to those people I trust who are modding experts and those who personally observe events to give a more professional opinon. There is no doubt that CF has plenty of people with much passion and strong views. For the most part, that is for the good of the server family. However, there are times that conversations rapidly go downhill in manners when someone feels slighted or challenged.
"...the witness is dismissed, but may be recalled at a later time."
As a personal note, I play CF Freelancer as well as other games on the Net because it offers me a chance to unwind from 10+ hours of treating patients, not because I live a "sad" life. You earn three college degrees and work hard, you deserve some time off. Oops, see, I almost fell into the trap of having a conversation go downhill. So, good day to all.
Thank you for taking out the trash!

Even though there's no legal rank on a pirate ship, everyone recognizes you're the one in charge. Even through many pirates have a reputation for not being the brightest souls on earth, you defy the sterotypes. You've got taste and education. Arr!

See, those three college degrees even show up when you are a pirate! Now go swab the decks, you gallows bait.
Op; you're both funny and sick...........................................
I like that!!
PS, back in the old days, did you see Rachel Welch in a loin cloth? (obscure movie reference)
I find CF plenty hard now, but I'm a CF noob.
Next thing we'll see posted by the "old timers" was that they "did it through a blizzard", "it was uphill the entire way", or "barefoot and on sharp rocks". No, it probably was much harder than it is now. Really.
(I believe you old timers, MOST of the time)
I started wondering after viewing all the threads on trade and trade routes on how much influence do the PCs have on trade prices. For example, if several people took trains of the same commodity from point A to point B, would the price at point A start to rise as more and more people bought the same item and would the price at point B begin to fall as subsequent trains arrived? If so, how much change can take place in "normal" value and how fast does it react (daily, weekly)?
If so, would it be possible to "corner" the market;i.e., by using several trains cause a huge change in the going prices? I don't want to turn CF into some sort of commodity based game, but it would be quite interesting to see the looks on people's faces on those who, after making a long , but easy trip, were suprised to find their final profit down to almost nothing due to everyone making the same high profit run (over and over again). This could also force players to expand their trade routes (explore more), as well as help prevent them from doing the same old routes for tens of millions of credits. In addition, that odd bit of remaining cargo you had stored in your hold and haven't sold yet might find itself far more valuable than you thought.
Anyway, I was just wondering what exactly "dynamic economy" represented. Thanks
I have run into at least 2 of these unmarked Freelancer pirates....and killed both. Since they asked for a tax, I assumed they were pirates, but how does one treat those freelancers who seem to open up for no reason and fail to follow the server rules (posted and not posted)?
Pirates
Madmen
Prey....
Kudows to both LP and CFPD players I have run into who do play their characters so well. I have been "SFB'd" and "argggged" many a time; both camps did it well and within their clans stated rules. Thank God I was either not hauling or dirt poor... :]
Perhaps the server rules could be clarified a bit more for those entering CF for the first time. Things like what makes a person low level, what each clan represents and how they may act, further expansion on specific no-no's (actions), ect.
I laugh my butt off now when I first thought that "LP" stood for Liberty Police! However, I'm sure that many a noob reading the server rules failed to pick up all the facets of Crossfire. The server is great, most of the players are doing some type of RP (some better than others), but I'm running into a few real idiots....oh, wait a minute, that's like real life, isn't it?
How about making a sticky thread or link to a noob crossfire area where a person can go to directly and get most of his questions answered before they step on (or get stepped on) people's toes? Sure, the answers are out in the multiple threads already posted (or at least most of them), but an already posted thread could save a lot of grief and anger down the road. I would love an area where I could go to that explains all the info that the regulars have gained over the years.
