Character choice at the installation only affects SP, I know of no way to change your MP char. I don't really care, because most of the time you're in space anyway and no one else can see it.

Well, actually you always need the patch. Best example I can give are the graphics of the DKA's. They got updated after this patch was released. This means you can't get the updated graphics if you don't use this patch, because unfortunately, the original launcher doesn't update to 1.54.

If you don't install this 1.7a patch, then you can't get to launcher version 1.54
So you don't need this patch anymore super.
The 1.7a patch should also show up in the installed programmes list if you're not sure whether or not you have previously installed the patch.
