Use this guideline. Installation of Crossfire 2.0 for win8.1 by NucNuc Some basics for introduct - Pastebin.com
This gives a detailed instruction manual on how exactly to install Crossfire 2.0 on Windows 8.1. Unfortunately, for you, you screwed up and have to uninstall the crossfire installer, Freelancer, and FLMM, then follow the guideline, to make sure the game will be fully stable. It's long, but a reliable process. It worked for me, and I use Win 8.1. Just be sure to keep retrying the installer if it crashes on splash screens. After a few retries or more it should work. Occasionally, the Crossfire 2.0 Setup executable will launch with no text once you reach the language chooser. Don't worry about this, just relaunch the installer again. DON'T uninstall Crossfire once you download it using this process I mentioned earlier. It will screw up everything. Secondly, I recommend this program for uninstalling. Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems
Revo Uninstaller checks the registry for remains of the files you delete using it. This program is recommended for uninstalling anything you don't need, and you'll probably have to uninstall what I mentioned earlier. Make sure you know what you're deleting in the registry, I think the guide tells you what you need to look for to delete somewhere. If you delete anything, make sure it is related to the Freelancer and Crossfire files. You'll also need CCcleaner, which also checks your registry for any bad sectors, unused files, etc. CCleaner - Download
I also strongly recommend you use the CCcleaner Professional Plus and the Revo Uninstaller Pro for this situation. RU Pro trial lasts for 30 days, CCcleaner Pro+ lasts for 14 days. Get them both for this situation, you may decide to purchase them later or switch to the free versions. After you install those, it's essential to delete all Freelancer and Crossfire files and do it again using the guide I linked here.

I've been thinking about it, and I think there should be new sounds added in the game, small things such as footsteps to explosions, to thrusters, cruise engines, docking, weapons, equipping weapons, ( you get the point. ) I think it would bring a bit of new life into the mod. Hell, Freelancer was released unfinished as it was, the game was technically in beta/alpha still before it got canceled.

What about those who can't obtain Windows 10? The "Free full version" is obviously a "lure and bait" trick from Microsoft to "lure" you into getting a free copy of Windows 10. Do you REALLY think they'd let you have a full copy of Windows 10 for free? xD Of course not, they'll charge you later via internet access fees. Notice this. "$119 is estimated retail price of Windows 10 Home FULL licence, actual price may vary." They let the lie slide here. Eventually they'll charge you. Now that I'm done ranting, here's my question ( Please don't delete this comment, it's important to me. ) Does this mean that Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 users will have to switch to Windows 10 to play Crossfire, or does it mean that Crossfire will soon be compatible for Windows 10 once the necessary info about the OS is acquired?

    It's already set to that.
Edit: I've installed it finally. However, Vanilla FL Intro + New CF Intro only has a black screen for the entirety of the intro. ( Only for fullscreen. )
2nd Edit: Waiting a bit before clicking singleplayer resulted in allowing the update to start. The update seems to have make the intros work. Singleplayer started with no noteworthy errors. However, two things that annoyed me. Since I have Skype open all day, I decided to run Crossfire in Windowed Mode. Clicking out of the game caused the video to freeze and fall behind the audio when I clicked back in. ( Function Keys problem solved alone. )

( This topic contains more problems that are unsolved. ) I followed the guidelines for installing Crossfire 2.0 on Windows 8.1, but for some reason when I launch the Crossfire20setup.exe file, it will start up showing no text. This is what it looks like on my end. ( Solved alone. )

Are there any explanations to this? I have recieved no error messages for about 4 or 5 hours.
Edits: I've tried re-running the installer a few times, sometimes it crashed after showing the SWAT-Portal thing, about twice, it went to the same SWAT-Portal thing, and stopped running with no error message, crashed twice after showing Crossfire 2.0: The Last Stand, shown after the first one i mentioned. It crashed with no error message once again when i got to the installer itself. Once the text actually showed, it got stuck on Installing Mod: Crossfire, then crashed with no error message. ( Worked within a few retries. )
