You want a good ship to start out in I prefer the black eagle VHF the eagle is just as good. Planet blood you can buy & arm your ship @ low cost including a shield upgrade. Do some podding bit of trading as you go, find a few local wrecks ... there is one with diamond backs mk lls in the south west corner of X 3043 ... starting to upgrade your guns ... go to freeport7 hunt nomads till you get a set level 10 nomad guns .... do some more podding till you have at least 10 mill.. or if you are quick make a run in and out of death valley (you'll need to go quickly to avoid fighting the nomads) pick up the chip from the ragnarock wreck ..... leave death valley without getting shot down.
I've done this at least 4 times in different iDs it can be done.
Once you have your money ..... there are so many great ships to fly and fight with found all over crossfire ....... but why not fly to wheel of sirius in X ... dock all the bases...rep depending check out all ships then decide which to buy there are some very good VHFs & Freighters eg . Quaisar vhf & luna sunrise freighter Both new ships.
If I've made some typos sorry .. it's bit of a pain typing on the fone.
Good luck .... whatever you buy you will enjoy and at some point you probably will change it....when you find something that looks like might be better .. and you will find it. -

Look m8 I know exactly what u are saying I have done what u were talking about played single player for years before going on line
Done every mod you can think of played combos you should not even try and put together.... sometimes they worked and it was fun to explore
CF is a great mod its fun to play but it has allways been different to other mods
Play it if u like it .... if u don't like some of it no reason u can't still have some fun playing
Anyway luck to u maybe it just not going to work for u
There are tons of other mods out there. See u in space sometime

Why not just go into the game settings and adjust the graphics details until you find a combination you like.
For myself I like the way CF is.
When you get into the larger sectors you don't see everything........ it is great to be able to spot something with your own eyes far in the distance and then fly towards it to investigate.
You can adjust details and fly in black space if you want .... monochrome or just a bit forward on the sliding bar to add a bit of colour. -
All u need m8 is just a bit more practice ..... once u start knocken em out u will enjoy
Levl 10 ship 6 gats from altair u will do fine ..not a requirement mind u...
Corsairs are my favorite enamy&friend at times.
