Thanks for the answer! Since I consider myself among the unlucky few with non-super-human-reflexes I resorted to making some changes to the entries on shield and hull repair in the SP inis....found it somewhere in the forum...so the matter got quickly resolved For anyone else having the problem, look here:

Hi everyone...hoping that there's still active users here^^
I really enjoyed all the beefed up AI so far, but Mission 11 of the good old SP campaign is just killing me! I've got a great heavy fighter (about 7000 Hull and class 7 shield...anyways most NPCs can't even do enough damage to counter my shield regen) and good balance of shield/hull damage class 7 weapons on it - and I really had no trouble so far in defeating any enemy ship! BUT: The Navy ships I encountered right after jumping into the Badlands at the beginning of the mission are just too damned fast...this really exceeds ANY humanly possible reflexes and I cannot keep them in sight for even a second - even as I tried to change to a light fighter for better manouveraibilty!
And just as I land a good hit (weather it being gun or missile) they just instantly regenerate using shield/nano bots.
It is just impossible to keep them in your view and targeted long enough to do enough damage to counter their regen!
So...after searching for this topic quite a while and not finding tips beyond anything people have suggested in terms of beefing up your skills, ships and equipment I was wondering if AT LEAST someone could give me a hint on how to temporarily deactivate the AI shield and hull regen so that I can enjoy the new crossfire SP campaign after having finished the main game.
I really cannot beef up my skills any further because this is really beyond any human reflexes-...maybe even a bug. And my ship is doing a lot of damage and taking hardly any! I was able to defeat an entire Rheinland fleet single handedly when just fooling around with two gunships and battleships...and a hell of a lot of fighters....so this really cannot be the issue here. And on top of that: I would call myself a freelancer veteran :D...played the SP campaign over and over again. PLEAAAAASE HELP :D!
