I am giving up and throwing in the towel. I cannot believe that i have to turn my computer modem off in order to play version 1.82, that was playable until yesterdays oversight.
What about other people on the same modem I am on? They can't use the internet, while i play. It takes 5-10 minutes to reboot the modem and then the computer when i disconnect it like
this and find it hard to believe with all the intelligence behind this mod, that no one has been smart enough to figure this out.
I have tried to figure out how to block Crossfire from accessing the internet on my computer, but despite my efforts of blocking the freelancer game and the server in my firewall (there were like 8 files listed), it still connects through a file somewhere i cannot find, and when i start the game it breaks again and i have to start all over. Argh, what a waste of my time and anyone elses!
Now, if only the Developers had figured this out in the first place, and written into the code that the Server checks the Version # before FORCING an update that
is clearly causing alot of people a lot of hours of hassles of trying to figure out how to deal with the issue. Can't help but sit here and think What IF, they had thought that since it was breaking already over complicated and finicky installs, that they should stop breaking the installs by writing in a quick code to prevent it from automatically trying to update to version 1.9 in the first place.
Fantastic MOD, and I would give all the thumbs up in the world here, but i cannot due to the fact that I can no longer play it without playing Mickey Mouse games
with turning off my computer modem. I have spent more than 8 hours! Trying to get around this issue, and I am upset with jacking around all day today and chunk of yesterday over a simple problem you should have already addressed.
I understand you need to work out the bugs for the new 1.9 version you are coming out with. But I would suggest in the future, release it to only specific people and keep the FORCED UPDATES that
crash the only playable version by everyone, set aside as a download for the testers or whatever you have to do to prevent this issue in the future.
thanks for the help, but no thanks...
