    Hi all,

Thanks for your answers. Please remember that 1/ it's the first such mod I try and 2/ I don't play MP on internet servers for now. You already know other mods and even, as I understand, are author(s) to some. So it's natural to have another opinion.

But for the moment I feel at ease with this one, I like most features I've seen, except the ones I've signalled. So I'll keep on trying and exploring it, to come back in a while with a more fueled opinion. Comparison will be next step when I'll have tried out some other similar mods...

For the "empty" remark, I feel at ease with seing the other ships on the radar list and playing cat-and-mouse like in a subwar setting.

And btw, I would want to ask, what other mods should I try if I like '88 Flak ? I know it may be asking for advertising a mod in another mod's topic. So I may post a specific topic, but it means that I list my search criteria and that may take some time, especially as I'll be having lunch in a minute ^-^ I'll first see what criteria could be found int he mods database or something like that, to get first set of clues...

    Hi all,

Juste gave it a try on MP-self-hosted mode, and I find it amazing.

However, as I now know there are some mods similar to '88Flak. I'll try out some before judging any of them ^-^ But I got near to no time to try, so this might take some weeks or even months.

To let you know, my gaming life is mostly made of playtesting lots of space games, many of them Elite-like and RTS, as inspirations for the "Stars of Call" game we will develop one day about the Hoshikaze univere we're writing as an Association. So I play many games, but most of them only demo, rarely do I download or buy a game and I nearly never play one real deep or for long, as I focus on evaluatig the potential and harvesting the good and bad points. The only exceptions are FL since the time I discovered FlAdv, and Frontier, which I play vanilla for years... Basically, I'm a former FL vanilla player who quickly modded the story out. Then I stumbled on Freelancer Advanced and played it for 2-3 years. But I never thought that many FL mods ever existed and particularly such mods as '88Flak. I stumbled on SWAT 1 week ago and it opens avenues !

'88Flak is just the kind of things I'm searching for, as it's an amazing example of a dynamic universe, ever-buzzing and really lifelike ! Ambiance is taking, AI gorgeous, combats hard, wingmen a breeze ^-^ I think I'll learn some lessons on that one ! And I think one day I'll try actual MP with actual people ^-^ But time is th issue on this one...

I found only a few things I want to comment on, and I'll enrich that list as I play by editing this post. Don't know if it's bugs or features, an effect of my still being on a n00b ship or a question or reputation that I still got to build, and the answer should be diffrent for each one...

    • There's no mission available in any base, neither by NPCs or board,
    • The "Best path" feature is broken, I presume because of the Trade Lines being replaced by Nav Buoys.
    • Patrol maps display every path white, seemingly regardless of reputation,

Globally, the mod has a great ambiance and I'll keep playing it for some time, then I'll be back to give you a more insightful opinion ^-^

    Hi Vishnu,

Took a peek at the 88 Flak Mod, doesn't seem to have newtonian travel, but that was expected after what SWAT_OP-R8R said. But if the suggestion was rather related to my general FL search, this might be the one ! It seems quite attractive ^-^

    Hi all,

    Just a little dead-post-raising...

Let's talk about Frontier and First Encounter, which had Newtonian physics and stellar systems simulation... Nice, but they would have been better, had they featured more multiple ships combats. One-to-one in newtonian is not very explosive. On multiple ships, it can become really interesting.

There was also Nexus - the Jupiter incident. Never fully played, got only the demo, but it was quite nice.

    Hello SWAT_OP-R8R,

OK, I understand. For instance docking would be uneasy as the guidance systems are setup for the original physics.

I've seen the topic on orbiting planets. Seems like making planets like ships or bases instead of fixed objects. I still have to learn the objects types inside FL, so it's a wild guess ^-^

The fact that ships could be swifter when empty and slow-moving when full could be a quite nice feature ! I'll search for such mods.

The idea behind my question is, I'm searching for an engine to make a TC to Hoshikaze, and that would require newtonian physics. But as the answers come, it seems FL wouldn't do.

But I love and hate FL for different features and some mods I've seen here seem to go well in the direction I'm always looking for in Elite-like games : dynamic economy, balance betweeen commerce, combat and exploration, and maximum ships customization.

    Hi Riebens, hi Daywalker,

Thanks for your answers. Indeed FL seems to have much more leeway for improvement through modding than I previously thought !

In the link, my interest was not in the main topic, but rather in BlackStar's answer. But I definitely will contact him by PM to see what he actually did achieve.

    Hi all,

Would like to know if any newtonian physics flight model is achievable on Freelancer through modding...

To help with answering in an understandable way for me ^-^ I've seen some game modding (Transcendence, NAEV, MW4, and also Celestia) and I'm a former developer (from '85 UCSD Pacal to .Net 2008), so I can understand the concepts. However, I'm a quite complete newbie on FL modding. I've read some of the modding tutorial, I see what they mean, but doesn't know the file structure involved. I'l DL the FL SDK to get more in touch and give it a real-life try.

For now, the only thing I found on the forums is in this post about "More accurate NPC's".

Thanks in advance for any hint ^-^

    Hi all,

Let's say Heroes of the Galaxy ... in the Space-Op' genre.

But the very best anime I ever saw was Mononoke Hime, all genres included !

    Or should I mention Avatar, it's nearly an anime ^-^ Oh, OK, I'll quit not-so-funny-rants ! :P
