Well, you can actually use a very risky way of transferring equipment. It involves positioning both chars in exactly the same place and ensuring no NPC's are around. Drop item from one, switch char and pick up with the other.
The greatest risk is from NPC's swooping in and nabbing your equipment
, so generally it is advisable to use another player

Unfortunately tried this technique, there were no NPC's nearby, when I relog with a different character in the same spot...gone

Edit: Is it still set that in certain parts of the story your alliances/enemies will change drastically?

And really loving the epicness of Crossfire.
Piloting a Titan Heavy fighter and exploring around X-3043 at the moment.
Just got some outstanding queries I hope someone can help me with:
1) The original story mode hasn't started yet for me...anything I forgot to do that triggers it?
2) The "Armor" rating of a ship, does it affect shield strength too?
3) I see a slot for shield upgrades but haven't seen anything that slots in there.
Also I like Heavy Fighter, have I already got one of the top ones? (Titan)

Ok sounds good. How about playing multiplayer online. The story mode will still be activated? I'm actually playing vanilla Freelancer story mode, but it's getting a bit too easy. So I want to try online Crossfire.

How do I start story mode in single player?
Is story mode like the original Freelancer with custscenes and dialogue?
