Alienware announced the immediate availability of nVidia SLI technology in Alienware Area-51
ALX systems. Alienware represents the first system manufacturer to offer the dual-GPU
technology of nVidia SLI. As you might expect, a system such as the Area 51 SLI does not
come cheap and getting one will set you back by about USD 6,000, although Alienware is
offering finance options to help out the needy gamer. Once you do own one however, you will
be able to claim that you possess one of the ultimate gaming machines.
Alienware
Area-51 ALX systems featuring SLI, utilize dual nVidia-based graphics cards that work
together to draw a single image, providing an increase in graphics performance of up to 100
per cent. The dual-GPU configuration also takes advantage of the increased bandwidth
provided by leading-edge PCI Express bus architecture when communicating between GPUs and
processors. As a result, the Area-51 ALX delivers drastically enhanced imaging capabilities
at even the highest resolutions, and revolutionizes performance in the latest graphics-rich
game titles.
The Area-51 ALX with SLI technology features Alienwares exclusive X2
motherboard, which enables dual high-performance PCI Express graphics cards and
high-performance Intel Xeon processors with 1MB cache. The X2 motherboard supports DDR2-400
memory and includes 6 ports for high-performance SATA RAID 0, 1, and 0+1 configurations. The
X2-powered Area-51 ALX also provides up to a 1000 watt power supply and offers flexible
expansion and upgrade options for the
future.
