Twilight War, a game described as a Massive Multiplayer
Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) with an integrated First Person Shooter (FPS) style combat
system, has licensed Valve's Half-Life 2 engine. In a joint announcement, Valve and Smiling
Gator Productions have patted each others backs with SGP claiming that the engine is ...one
of the gaming world's premier technologies... and praising the engine's ...combat system,
physics, and advanced AI.
Twilight War - After the Fall now joins Troika Games'
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines and an, as yet, untitled project from Arkane
Studios.
The engine's potential is undeniable but how exactly it can be utilised in
a game which claims to combine FPS gameplay with MMORPG depth remains to be seen. Valve
however, may end up needing as many licensees as possible since the, well publicized, feud
with Vivendi may leave the company with considerable debt. It is not surprising then that
SGP have praised Valve for their excellent
support.
