Did the Alarm go off, because there was an accident with a sea cruiser, he woke up & turned on the light too late, heard the news about the ship and the accident & shot himself to escape trial & a prison sentence (and coz of guilt, of course)?

he was in a hot-air balloon and were going down because there was too much weigh on board, so they took off their cloths and threw them out, aswell as all the unnecessary other stuff... but they still had too much weigh on board so the one who took the shorter stick would have to jump off... right?
