Lucy recently posted an excellent tutorial on how to set up groups of weapons in freelancer.
Daywalker gave me a lesson and advice in pvp in using the strafe commands and other hints.
One thing I still struggle with especially when more than one player is involved is in selecting targets. I know these are available in the user interface but how do you set them up?
what precisely do they do?
do you have to preselect targets?
in the tdm is it possible to do this automatically?
I am at an obvious disadvantage to more experienced players and fighters but would like to improve. Any advice is welcome.
If it gets too complicated with too many keys i will become lost as I am a two fingered typist. how the hell do you remember them all?

Its not a criticism its an observation. Do not take things so personally. It was not meant as such. To err is human perfection is divine.

I ask a totally innocent question and seem to start a debate about something else.
I enjoy crossfire. I have had no problems with any characters I've met in fact most have been really helpful especially early on when I had just joined CF and had my doubts about it. CF is my first online rp game and it has been a positive experience to date. Patience and a willingness to communicate are key points to develop in the game. Progress up the levels can be slow. It may be helpful if more people explained to newcommers a little about how to progress. even how to communicate etc. It took me several sessions to realise how to use the chat command.
CF is a great mod and obviously is the result of a huge amount of time and effort. I respect the effort and skill in producing the mod. They are skills which I don't unfortunately share.
I have recently felt confident enough to join in some of the server events which have been exciting and fun. They have made me feel more a part of a community. It would be a shame if all the effort and general goodwill was lost due to a few innopportune and possibly hasty comments. I would ask that people think first and act second.
finally a plea 'i bear nobody any a grudge and mean no offence' but some of us need to do a little growing up. You are responsible for your deeds and actions. I would hate to lose the opportunity of experiencing the CF upgrade because of what has gone before, is ongoing or may be to come.
Op remember the majority of players support you in your efforts to provide a good experience in what is after all JUST A GAME !!! AND IS MEANT FOR ENJOYMENT.
eVERYTHING ELSE MUST COME SECOND TO THAT. -

Tonight I believe there is to be a 'battle royale' between the ASF & CSF.
I believe I can take part as a freelancer. However I would like clarification on some important points as they would affect my characters progressin in the game.1. Do I have to join a faction/clan to take part?
2. Can I take part as a mercenary hired just for the battle?
3. How much will you hire me for?

taken part for the second time. great fun & adrenalin rush. I
if you are online friday evening you must take part in this event. Its chaotic & fast. you will need a decent sdhip & load out & about 10 mill credits or being killed & resupply could bankrupt you. I'd like to break even one week, i.e kill as many times as i'm killed. If you only take part in one server event make it this one.
it would be great to have teams of 10 or more, absolute chaos.[203]

when passing through some systems for the first time in sp looking for jump holes. Some of the very distant stars appear to be surrounded by the triangular nomad gates. Are these artifacts or real. I tried to travel towards some but after 30 mins or more I was no nearer and off the map.

Been there in sp. But is there any point, unless its to fly on a planet? Fly near the ocean it gives the real illusion of speed.

As a follow up to asking why we continue to play freelancer, I was wondering what ages the players are?
I'm a 49 year old grey haired overweight beergutted fag smoking advertisement for a heart attack. Who I'm told should know better. what about you? -
I have just been part of the most intense experience yet in X-fire. Couldn't tell how well I did as I was too involved. What was it? Team Death Match(TDM). A team free for all. Their were 10 players taking part. 5 a side. Guns Blazing, Missiles Flying. It was a dog fight. Brief glimpses of the enemy fire a few shots try launch missiles & counter measures before your targetted. Chase your prey down, damn he can out turn me, reverse there he is, BLAM. Missile from another player got me just as I lined him up. Absolutel the best thing I've experienced on X-fire. The adrenalins still pumpimg. Need a better ship & load out. don't want a lagg. Wonder if I can try the shroud? It would depend on where to buy it. I might have to bribe someone.
I beg anyone on the sever on Friday to join the event. It is a real WOW!

Thanks Lucy for an excellent experience & to all who took part

I took part in this for the first time tonight. Its basically hare & hounds. Two teams, smugglers (hares) & hunters (hounds). I was a late entry and became a smuggler with Jack Bauer (hope i spelled it correctly). We had to tag 2 systems and get back to Xfire.
Jack was off like a rocket with me trailing behind more like a tortoise. The hounds were also released. the smugglers started in NB & had to get to Edinburgh & Omega 11 then back to xfire to win. Jack was trying to encourage me all the way with useful advice. I tried to take it but the rush gets to you and mistakes are made. jack got to edinburgh. i was still in NL. However all the hunters took off after jack (the main prize I guess) (I was the cheese board), leaving me to trail in late. Met Dr Doom in Leeds, managed to escape by luck. (The hounds had my scent.). Never even caught sight of his ship when I was trying to avoid my demise. Made NL j hole & really lost it there. Cambridge, O3, O7, O 11, Jacks now sitting pretty on xfire. Sending warnings of my coming sacrifice like a greek soothsayer. Jack had killed a hunter I believe didnt really get chance to think or check.
CLear of the O 11 j hole & my Doom awaited, dodge, countermeasures by the bucket load. How many missiles does he carry? didnt even notice the type of ship. Dodged back to O 7 he follows back to O 11. Caught no CM left. try to face him, where is he? Out turned Outshot; shields gone, gun lost, hull failing BOOM.
I look forward to the next one do join in please the more the merrier. Cash prizes to win & a cuddly toy.
Bye the way it would help if you knew where all the j holes are. Looks like Ive more exploration to do. -
I have only been playing games for about 5 yrs (thanks to Ahmar for introducing me to them). Freelancer was one of the first I bought. Since then I must have played most of the mods available in sp and spent 100's of hours in Sirius space. So what is it that keeps me playing? Even now, over 6 yrs after its release.
For me it was its ease of play. No need to master many different controls. I liked the storyline. I enjoyed the freedom from the strict linear games I had played before. It was a revelation like reading Dune for the first time.
I started to play online only a few months ago tried a few servers & settled on xfire. I found this was the first server where contact was made by others wishing to help, explaining rules & conventions. Teaching me the new controls to master (I really did not know how to chat & still mess up transfers. Haven't sorted console commands yet but I'm trying). Recently attended my first server events. What is it that keeps you playing?
