its considered cheating
As far as I know Multiboxing gives you an unfair advantage over other players since you're running two or more instances of Freelancer to gain an upper advantage on other players (trading with 2+ Freelancer Accounts). If you're referring to that kind of multiboxing (I am not aware of a second version of multiboxing )
Edit: Ninja'd by OP.
is playing with 2 people in one house also considered cheating? it is hard to tell if someone is using 2 PCs or there are actually 2 people (when trading). If my brother logs in while I'm playing, he gets kicked for multiboxing, while he is on another pc and not using multiboxing.
I know there are some servers that put restrictions on multiple accounts from 1 IP, for instance disabling formation, which makes it much harder to multibox.
i was using two instances of FL on the same PC. One runs on the normal Windows system while the other runs in an isolated Sandboxie. the server said "you are kicked because multiboxing prohibited" but it didn't kick me O_o
i guess i better stay away from it, since it is against the rules.
If I remember right, was said that cases with 2 players under one IP will be evaluated separately. Can be good to use PM to OP if such specific case happen.
it is possible to check if one pc was used or multiple
