How to make players being interested in joining a clan

  • Yeah asking might be the very first start. I mean you must not directly ask them in your first hail if they wanna join your clan. Get in touch with them, ask what they like and what not - so you can figure out if they would fit into your clan.
Or if any GR is around - ask one if he might make a system announcement - kinda advertisement for you - that DSC is recruiting. Or just recruit Crysis as experienced player ;)

And no GRs are not for clan advertisements... else they could do it for their own clans and own purposes too, etc. Even I guess they could accept.

At least I'd know, DSC do will be a cheat free clan as in the advertisements, at least as much as you know about ur ppl. :)

  • I've moved some posts from certain clan-recuiting-threads into here.
If you guys want to discuss something out of topic, then please open up a new thread and do NOT flame on the original threads.

Also I (personally) think, asking a GR for support, in order to make some announcement on the server, to get people being interested in joining any clan, seems not to be such a bad idea.
GR's are supposed to support and force RP. Clans are supposed to have their chosen RP actually playing.
So, informing people in a DECENT way about any open recuitings of ANY clan, is also supporting RP, since it supports a clan.
It does NOT matter which clan is getting "supported" in that way by which GR. Since GR's are supposed to be NEUTRAL.
The only "requirement" I would suggest is, that the clan (leaders) would have to move their butts in order to tell the GR's to announce something.

Besides that, the console message is already informing about clans. "Interested in joining a clan? visit crossfire.swat-portal.com" or something like that is popping up via console already.
HOW the clan's are going to use that possibility is on them, and NOT on the GR's. But if NO ONE tells anything, NOTHING can be done.
    Think about it.

    My 2 cents.

  • The Honorable & Correct Way

    1. introduce yourself as a player, not a clan member.
    2. Ask them what role they are interested in playing.
    3. Tell them about the different RP's we have available.
    4. Tell them about all the clans and what they do in RP.
    5. Help them get started with trading and a good trader ship. ( dromedary or an eagle with a decent load-out for pod hunting in Colorado)
    6. Encourage them to register in the forum, read the RP rules AND the Server rules. Explain to them how these are two seperate sets of rules and do not coincide with each other. ( contrary to some people's belief)
    7. Suggest they freelance for a while, get to know the server. Introduce them to players and let them decide which way they want to go.
    8. Get them to events and encourage their participation.
    9. Warn & explain the access rules to clan systems.

    The Dishonorable Way

    1. Meeting them in NY within a short period of their log in and asking them to join your clan.
    2. Giving them tons of credits and weapons in order to bribe them into being in your clan
    3. Slamming the other clans or your opposing clan.
    4. Slamming & lying about players
    5. Telling them what you don't like about CF
    6. Talking them into your clan in their first week & they have yet to learn RP or how your clans works. ( are you at war with another clan? are you kos with another clan?) This seems petty, but it's not. When new players are getting killed because they are in your clan and they don't understand why.
    7. Failing to explain to them ALL of the benefits & features of CF.
    8. Failing to warn or explain Clan system rules to them.

  • I will tell u m8...just sit in NY or in nearby systems and recruit n00bs, bribe them with good amount of money, be friendly, tell them few secrets about CF and kick some cop ass in front of their eyes for example, and lie to them, lie them a lot ....oooOO... Some(many ;)) people so desperately want to be lied or deceived by someone else!
    It will do the trick.

  • We have several examples about one man Clans around. ImO it´s realy important to make your Clan unique. Bring it to life, only a forum and a few ppl do not make a Clan it´s the idea, RP and especialy future expectable movements. Or it´s a pack of friends playing together (more close than an open recruiting clan). Also very important imO is having a guideline and being stable on your way, if needed against all risks. Being extroverted and certain about your own Idea will help as well as being someone ppl wanna play with too. But formost it´s one thing, matching to each other and having fun together.

There is also another possibility, joining an other Clan - maybe an older one to reinitiate it with fresh ideas - so you must not invent the wheel new and also you would have a few Clan Mates at once. Sure, existing Clans also still have their standing but they also have many advantages.

And if this is not your way, share it with another one also trying to start a Clan, with time you will have to give up every decision made by yourself because future mates of your Clan wants to take part in making decisions and also wants to from the Clans being, so you can just make it from the very beginning and also share the work this way.

Recruiting ppl is not that hard, but with time you see that one recruit going his way up while getting help from every Clanmate is much better for the recruit and your Clan than being one of many recruits with no background. That will make your friends staying and playing with you and best following a common unique idea.

If you need more informations, just ask successfull Clanfounders how they made it in private, that will help you getting some serious tips.

    thats was my 2 cents.

And just by the book Gunny... too bad that only a few people now respects the honorable way

  • @The_Crow:

Instead of asking everyone in game to join your clan (I personally think it sounds "newbish"),
direct them to swat-portal, specially if they are new around and have questions (enough auto-announcements
in game already for the portal).

Once here, they will all see the nice "commercial" you will have made to try to convince them to join you ^^

It is indeed not GR's role to attract players for any clan (*caughs* specially unofficial ones!), as we are neutral
    RP wise.
Also, "Event Manager" characters cannot exploit universe chat system for personal messages or reasons - but
    you guessed it already ;)

  • I totally disagree with the GR not making announcements for clan recruiting. As SP I made such announcements for any clan when they requested I do so and it was quite effective. Unless Op says otherwise, it's a proven tool that works to get people into clans.

And while I understand of not giving a token privilege to "unofficial" clans, I would suggest we act in concert and get people into official and unofficial clans or we will not succeed. One way streets are an easy way to stop the correct flow of traffic.

As long no one ask the GR's to do such things, nothing in this way will happen.
Announcing some recuitment from clans, does support RP, since clans are supposed to DO their RP.
    Supporting clans => Supporting RP

And discussion on the forum about it, doesn't really change anything ingame, does it?

Clan's which are activly seeking members, should make themself being more attractive to potential new recuits.
Hanging out in NY and asking/bribing/luring people into their clans, is surely not a safe way to be attractive for a long time. Just saying ;)

  • Hey Cro - you are doing a lot of events. Thus you already do some good advertisment. Showing you're present on the server and that you actually care to keep the wheel turning.
Probably you should write a little abstract on what people can expect if they join your clan. What are they supposed to do there. Are there any "positions" they can achieve?
Show them that you are in utter need of some people and that several roles are free yet.

As for the rest - i am with G. Also did clan advertisement during my times. Does not hurt tho and its no abusing. But well its everyones own decision ;)
At least you know that Michael wouldnt help you in this^^
