Market balacing, input needed

  • The biggest part of the balancing of the new CF is actually done, there is nothing that will change my layout on the ship balancing anymore as the capital ships and utility ships got balanced already and I decided to check the agility of fighters and even them if neccessary (working on that atm and will finish that this night).

However... i am not sure about balancing something that i originally wanted to remain as it was.
    The market.
One thing that i decided to change for sure is the level requirement when you want to buy ships or equipment. Actually i wanted to get rid of this limitation.
If you have the money to buy something then for gods sake buy it.
I am sure you all will agree with me on that.

But there is another question that comes up with the introduction of a new plugin.
Should the markets be dependent on your reputation to the station owners?
e.g. you want to buy a new ship on a pirate station but you are good with police and have a bad reputation with that pirate faction that owns the station

Wouldnt it be logical, probably more interesting to focus more on the different reputations and and be able to buy a ship/equipment only when you are at least neutral to the faction that owns the station?
You dont have to be their best friend, but at least neutral (atm you can buy even when you are hostile)?

I played through a few scenarios and came to no real conclusion.
On the one side it would add a higher realism to the game and would make a few things more interesting. On the other side... would it disturb player if they have to do rep hacks in order to buy ships/equipment?

I went even so far to think about including our server roleplay in my considerations.
What if the RP licences are not available anymore at the house planets but at faction specific stations?
e.g. merc licence at a bounty hunter station, police licence at police stations, pirate licence at pirate bases, smuggler licence at stations controlled by trading factions (dunno)
You have to be on good terms to buy such a licence... not just neutral.... and this way you side with that kind of RP that you have chosen (with all consequences)

thats just an idea (radical one, and i have 0 experience if that would even work on the server or if ppl would like it that way)

I was also playing with the idea to put all BMGs to stations controlled by bad guy factions and only people which are on good terms with them may trade BMGs (while all other goods can be traded by all players no matter how their rep looks like)

my problem is that i lack in experience of how the players would react on such changes so i need your opinions
I need a decision about this topic till friday evening
no matter how the result will look like i will have to create the final market files then

Only dead fish swim with the stream.
Don't discuss with idiots. They only drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience there.

    This is ten percent luck,
    Twenty percent skill,

    Five percent pleasure,
    Fifty percent pain,
And a hundred percent reason to remember the name!

  • For me its more realistic if any good, may it be ships, commodoties or equipment is based on your reputation. Officers should not be able to buy pirate ships and vice verse. And only smugglers should be able to buy the large trains - or dunno have a financial benefit (make them cheaper - just an idea). So no having the money is not enough - thats kinda boring. BTW at the moment you cannot buy stuff from a faction where you are hostile to - because you cannot dock on their stations. So yeah its more realistic if there is a reputation balancing can be included. That refers nearly to everything that you can get.

In the end i would love to see special cop fighters and special whatever faction fighters ;)

  • I'm all into reputation based-market and definitely into BMGs accessible only to guys with good rep to the given selling station.

Huor: trains have to be accessible to everyone - what about traders and miners? They don't smuggle, they are legal.

Seeing PX struggle with every cop faction NPCs in game: priceless.

  • That looks very interesting to me OP.

Removing level restrictions would be nice (specially in SP! would be able to try out
bunch of different other ships during the campaign ^^)...

Having reputation play a more important role would be a nice input to RP I believe
(heck with pirates afiliated with navy and police?!)

Although about needing a minimum faction reputation level to be able to purshase goods...
I am not sure about others, but I am usually not even granted to dock at the station/planet if
my reputation is on the "red" side?

Needing reputation "hacks" to purshase specific faction equipment, would to me bring back
the search of bribes around (except for junker in Rochester, and coalition in Earth, I have never
really needed to use bribing - shame considering the numbers of installed hackers all over sirius?
In any case, it makes sense you cannot be KoS by the faction to get granted to purshase their
equipment (sort of like clans are already doing actually ;) )

About general market adjustments I have no clue...
Except for the smuggling currently allowed to anyone - which to me messes up the market.
Will you be able to find a way to fix "smuggler" RP though? (that looked hard to solve)

  • I think its a good ideia if:
    - cops can have nice legal ways to make money like selling criminal pods, good mining routes and legal routes like old prisioners runs.
    - mercs have the disavantage becouse there is a few bounty hunters bases in vannila and their rep should be neutral at least with all factions. So i dunno how they should make money... legal or illegal based on reputation could be difficult
    - pirates could have some illegal routes like cardemine and some BMGs
    - smugglers should have the best profit routes and the bigger cargo ships.

all factions should have at least one good ship with the same stats (but diferent designs) to avoid the best ship of the game is on "cops/mercs/pirates"
Mining should have good routes for each licence factions and not exclusive to trade factions
we must not forget asf/csf since we have all kinds of roleplay on both factions

grr this must be a hell of a work to put all things to work... if i have any more ideias i will post later on

  • on my opinion:
ammo/equipment/ship: not hostile to buy ammo, above neutral to buy equipment, friendly to buy ships. (and yes it is possible to be hostile and docked to a station)

licences on specific stations? I agree. Smuggler licence on junker stations would seem most logical. (besides smugglers are usually in good terms with the police - as it attracts the least attention, (Reducing the amount of time that NPC's wait for a player to drop cargo would seem more realistic))
BMG's: sold anywhere exept Police stations and their allies. (People trading illegal goods usually dont care about your rep (as long as you dont look like someone who would rat them out)

  • ppl would adapt it, when eg. the Merc Licence is only buyable at Deshima or Freistadt, afterwards the rep would be changed back to neutral. While a pirats start would be a real Nightmare to get a Licence at the beginning. Also a Clan or either a Player with more than 1 Char can store everything neccessary - i don´t think that it will change the Gameplay for experienced Player.

    Positive: more realistic
Negative: your are bound to it from the idea behind it (for example: you never would be alone in pvps anymore)

I vote for doing it this way ;)

The very best way imO would be to hook the licence on the RP. If you are including the ASF/CSF Licences to it there would be also other possibilities.

About the Markets depending on your Rep. Realy a cool idea.

Positiv: Deeper Gameplay and the RPs would probably stick more together to trade with each other
Negativ: i am sure you know that you again would have to rewrite the complete marketfiles for it / make them / check them / balancing it for differnt RPs / balancing the Systems for not to make a disadvantage for the RPs - that would be the hell of work for you to rewrite them from the scratch.

In any of the both points i would like to ask you to make a few routes possible for every RP to trade with, like the vips from 1.7 probably one in every house changing day by day or being online only on a few days.

    BMG to bad Guys Rep...

Well, thats somehow spicy, isn´t it? tbh. what i don´t like in the current files are the very short runs (because it´s nearly not possible to interact as Pirate or Police or run as a Trader because it´s way to short to do so) and the buying limit (i know that it will be changed) . What i realy like is that except of a few Days in a few Systems everything is very balanced. Within the FL Market file it´s possible to buy Cardamine and Artifacts only far away on Bad Guys Stations for a good price - but you can sell it everywhere - the most profitable runs are far away. I do liked that System - why not just bring it back for BMG too - with a much higher Profit so the thrill of delivering a Train full of BMG from somewhere to New Tokyo for example would come back. but it would also be possible to have a medium profit from a Bad Guys Station in the System if you are able to buy it there. Summary ImO yes ofc.

Ever thought about placing real Mega Routes from Weth to Altair or Lost Paradise, Monkey, Robot to the Sirius Houses? Limiting every Alien based BMG to the Places where aliens are "living"?!
I also realy would like to see Altair being more set to trade in or the usage of completly different - just because the Systems are realy nice but have only limited trading abilities (maybe that will change with the mining concept for what i am waiting excited).

The Train itself is limited to the pocket already and it´s cargo is very limited just compare NPC Trains and Player buyable Trains.

What about closing the buy every Weapon possibility at Issos and the Ouposts, so if you want a Ripper Mine or a Sunslayer you will have to change your Rep and so on also like in Vanilla.

That may also allow more transactions and deals between players, trying to obtain a certain equipment without willing to change reputation :)
More trades with players, less with "computer" :p

Very nice idea. It would be awkward to ask a pirate to buy me some sunslayers from Bruchsal, but in the end it would increase funny player to player interactions.

    Deeeeeper, more realistic, great.

And about those Mega-trade-runs: Epic trade route from DK systems in Inner Core to Atka research or other research stations with huge profit and huge risk factor (ie.: you have to get that train to weth alive first!) would spawn caravans. If one train could make about 100M profit, then it would still be profittable to get clan friends or hire mercs to protect train to weth (they can die in weth without docking at Mirtrrak) or even the whole way back to Sirius. Imagine caravans of 3 trains with few fighters to defend them. 300M / let's say 7 players (4 fighters) = 42M. Not bad. Might be even better if you risk more and get only one fighter :D

Damn, mercs, this would be great for you - imagine RP buisness of IC->Weth escort. Whole new buisness! Epic idea Daywalker.

  • first abaut reputation
i think that if you are alowed to dock at a station you are in good relation with the station owners to buy wat ever you wona buy.
i sigjest somp elce- station and planets to become momentearly hostle (undockeble) for a day not more
but this stations and planets not to be in BMG or mine routes (so good wen a good mining is open to be bale to do it)
i sugjest stis stations and planets to have important and hight level eqipment, or/and the best ships in game
    exsample
"workers on XXXXXX border station are on strike cuz of low paycheks so the station is clused for docking until the strike is over"
    or
"sidisents of planet new london have made a puch agenst the govermen, the planet is at war and caos so for now docking is not alowed"

that is realisum, if this is not posible, then random reputation changes. lets say that today Corsairs have agreement with GMG and all ppl frendly to GMG are frendly to corsairs
or mollys are at war with oucasts, so if anyone is frend with oucasts they will be enemys with mollys for today

abaut rp licences, you can make it that they are sold only in x ore arena (as neutral system)
it will be maijor discomfort to look for a station that sell smuggler license o.o, or if you were a cop (good guy) and you have made missions agenst pirates you must pay bribes to make them frendly if you wona change rp and licences ><
and will it be posible to make the pirate licence (the hologram to look like a skull and bones) you know to look more piraty
cuz i think i am not alone on this but todays hologram are ugly as hell, and stay very unreal on the top of the ship, like grafic bug XD

that is for now if i think somp elce i will right

    space

    the final frontier

  • Well, I reckon linking the buying of ships, equipment, licences to rep and RP is brilliant.
BMG's on bad guys bases = great.
It all falls more into line with reality - so a big thumbs up from me

  • What do you fear - actually to explore the universe to find a license? Random reputation changes - for what reason. Today i hate you but tomorrow i love you - huh how is that realistic?

wat to explore I KNOW WERE ARE ALL THE STATIONS :)
there is no EXPLORATION in trying to find somting but have no idea were it is. if some one dont have all day looking for a licence, like flying for HOWERS JUST TO BUY A LICENCE, i gess we will see more ppl with NO LICENCE, and buy asking them way dont you have one they will be "i am to lazy to look for one"
and you dont see random reputation as realistic ? omg how abaut that change reputation. USA AND USSR WERE ENEMYS NOW THEY ARE FRENDS TOMOROW THEY CAN BE ENEMYS AGEN
if mollys got new leader he hates oucasts ->mollys are at war with the outcasts. IT'S LIKE RL

    space

    the final frontier

  • there is no EXPLORATION in trying to find somting but have no idea were it is.

OP did not state he wanted to "hide" the licences, but eventually put them into different areas... I doubt it would be kept secret...

    My opinion:
Remove all limitations. I'd love to try all ship and for eq can easily be solved with a neutral rep + birbe /fraction with eq/ and delete char.

I dont like, when the NPC involved in the PvP. In fact generally do not like the NPC in Sirius (exception - ancient)

I think attention should be directed:
1.profitabile long trade routes (Daywalker is well pointed interaction between players with different RP) for all.
2.add some more JH eg enyo-telosis. Kamper police/pirat/merc must cover a larger space in X gate. Team play. (off topic but important for trade)
3.trading only in Sirius. dont need to stretch MP game.
    4. ... stop :)
Three games on a single server. Sirius- RP, Altair-story and open play and Iner Core - hard core NPC.

    TNX for thread OP.

  • Hi

The general idea is to keep it kinda realistic, isnt it?

RP-license available on the related stations? good! in that way you pic from the beginning what you wanna do.

You want to be a cop? act as a cop and fight criminals. In other words, you HAVE to be friendly with the cop's to actually BE one of them.

You want to be criminal? sure! But be aware that you ARE HOSTILE with the cops in order to be a true criminal person in sirius!

In my opinion, only the mercs and smugglers are tending to be neutral to both fractions (cops and pirates) since they can be hired by both sides (mercs) and also working for both sides (smugglers)

And ofc the freelancer itself should be neutral to all fractions, UNTIL they decide to take part at the RP, which leads them to the point, where they WILL HAVE TO decide which way to go!

    Ship purchasing:

Sure, why not making it different! Police having their Fighters, which are NOT available for pirates. And same thing the other way around.

But then another question would appear. What ships do you consider as "police"-ships and which ones would be the "pirate"-ships?

Same for equipment. Being able to purchase the weapons and equipment just on certain bases (depending on your faction) would be a good idea. In this way you would have to show that you are a true member of your faction, BEFORE you can purchase the desired equipment.

Ammunition, I would make it available. Not just on the RP-based factions, but also on the ones you are neutral with.

    but another thing.

why making the ability to purchase ships depending if you are in good (friendly) terms with the fraction of the base/station??

make it the way, that you HAVE TO BE HOSTILE with the OPPONENT fraction

Isnt there a way to make it possible, that you only be able to purchase the ship or equipment you want, if you are hostile with their fractions opponent? (not their allies)

so the message would not say,

"you have to be friendlier to the faction of the base, in order to purchase this item!"

    BUT

"you have to be HOSTILE to xy in order to purchase this item!"

    just an idea

    Market commodities.

BMG not available for pirates or cops at all, or for an higher ammount of money. (so its nearly worthless to even consider to trade them, for those factions)

'Neutral' goods available for all fractions, with the SAME payout for ALL. (so no one can even start complaining that their is NO good trade)

    transports & co:

only smugglers should have the option to purchase a ship with an very high cargo hold.

pirates, cops and mercs should get trading ships with less cargo.

and in order to make an exorbitant ammount of money, they WILL have to trade a lot, or do their RP (fining, robbing) more properly!

    another point.

BS's should NOT be able to get used as a trading ship for ALL fractions

first, it spoils RP very fast. second, it makes it nearly impossible to even tax or fine it, not to mention to kill it.

you will die more times than you will get out before you even kill that thing to begin with. So the one who uses this one as trading ship, has an unfair advantage to the others and is also kind of avoiding RP

Isn't a Battle ship called BATTLE ship? and not TRADING ship.

Also the prices for the BS's should be drasticly increased, so not everyone would go ahead and purchase one of those in order to either tax, or fine or just kill others, cause they are soo tough

Reducing the cargo hold would be one of the options.

iE: The Osiris has a cargo hold of 1000. 400 of it is blocked (used) by whatever already. In fact you have 600 cargo hold left to transport commodities

The APC has a cargo hold of 450 which is just 50 less than the Osiris has (according to the current ammount of maximum you can purchase from ONE item on each base/station)

Since the Osiris can dock everywhere like the APC and the Osiris is even faster and nearly unstoppable for fighters (before they die onces) why should someone use the APC in order to trade then??

making the cargo hold size reduced to .. lets say 50 would be more realistic, since no one would trade in a BS, to actually increase their money!

maybe they would do it, just to tease the opponent. but why shoudl I (as a pirate) bother with that? I dont want to die, just to push the opponents ego :)

    my 2 cents

  • [quote='[}{SHS}{]',index.php?page=Thread&postID=256347#post256347]LOL AD DONT SAY APC NEED REDUSE CARGO O.O if apc get 400 cargo everyone will use bullpups ><. i use apc never used bs for bmg learn to read before you post :p> I was talking about BATTLESHIPS and taking the Osiris as an example being compared with the APC (which is the most used commodity transport so far, at least the one with the biggest cargo and can dock everywhere)

    thanks for spamming
