Um ok im daft ,someone asked me where to get GMAX and ive forgotten who it was.(it was my bday so i was rather drunk :D)

gmax is free but u need to register on those links
Blender is good as well and free(gmax does not have a renderer)
get a pirated copy of milkshape. Much better and can be used to import to Freelancer.

iam rather good in using blender, but i cant import or export to the files freelancer uses. is there some kind of an exporter? (with blender i can in and export to the common 3d formats like 3ds, max and wrl)
1. export from Blender to .3ds
2. load the .3ds in Milkshape
3. export from Milkshape to Freelancer .cmp and .mat

but i cant find the export script in milkshape that exports to freelancer files
maybe i need a plugin, somebody knows where to find such a plugin?

i found a plugin somewhere else, but only for importing. i managed to get the shapes of some ships in blender, but it isnt importing the textures also. anyone knows how i can import meshes and textures at the same time in milkshape?
u have to select the material when u export it
and on the swat portal there are several importers and exporters

hello everybody umm dose anyone know were to get a detaild tutoral for gmax? just wanting to learn how to use the basics of modiling and bilding a cool ship and know what the buttons do:D there are a lot of buttons.... lots and lots of buttons?(
get drizzt4's (or smth like that) FL modeling tutorial (pdf) from SWAT downloads - it's for GMAX
i tryed that and its got a lot of things missing like the ctrl and click to select differint parts without selecting the whole model just littel bits like that are missing making the thing hard to understand?(
just choose poly editor and here you go - select only polys
choose group editor and here you go - select only groups
choose vertex editor and here you go - select only vertexes
choose edge editor and here you go - select only edges
there are some other things in it that dont make sense like following what it says and when you get to make the cockpit eveything is fine but when you get up to the point where you click the [make planer] and so on it gets a bit differint not a bit, alot!!! it sort of looks like something is stranglen it lol it looks quite funny:D(first atempt and more to follow lol) so thats the main part im stuck atm.
make planar = make flat 
thats the prob? it dose enything but that. it ads extra parts like ummm... just extra stuff, hard to explane 
if there is somthing like a step by step gide for dummys please tell me! lol
