Display MoreLast time we checked in with Tyrel Lohr they were building the Super Wing Commander Snakeir (aka the Wing Commander Armada Shiraak). Now they've moved on to the rest of Wing Commander Armada's too-rarely-seen... armadas. We've got everything from the hated Phantom to the mighty Goran in the works, which you can see below. You can purchase their models to print yourself through Cults!
Thought I would share the in progress shots of the Wing Commander Armada Kilrathi 3d models. Shiraak and Shok'lar have already been test printed, the rest will test print later this week. Have to do the Goran still.Kilrathi Wing Commander 3d printed pics of the painted 3d models I did of the Shiraak light fighters and Shok'lar fighters. I still need to do some more touch ups on the Shiraak and paint some more paneling details on the bottom, but they are all pretty much table ready now. (Skeet)Suffered from a bout of insomnia two nights ago, so last night I spent part of the evening working on some more #Kilrathi Wing Commander models to try and unwind. Decided to just knock out the rest of the Wing Commander Armada models. (Skeet)
I think the Dralthi needs some more hull panel lines, though! Here's a look at the very subtle panels I added to the Dralthi, along with a version where I applied some color to the layers for a bit of extra definition and contrast. And here is my rendition of the Jrathek. Not perfect, and I did take some liberties with the hull in the interests of getting its proportions so that it could be printed.
It is strange that the WC2 Jrathek is stretched compared to the squatter Armada version. I went with the Armada version here.
I also decided to just make the top and bottom markings on the front of the Jrathek the same for the sake of my own sanity, and because I think it will paint up nicer with those bright, vibrant red details compared to the streaked effect from the original game texture.A few more Wing Commander fighters to share. Up first is the Confed Arrow light fighter. I couldn't get it looking exactly right, but I think it's close enough that you can tell what it is. The nose may be too pointy and prone to breaking once printed, but a test print should tell me for sure. (Skeet)Next is the Confed Phantom fighter. I think it was a medium fighter, but I can't remember now. I had to do some adjustments on this one since the silhouettes I had look nothing like the angled model, so I modeled what I could top down and then stretched the whole thing before finalizing the model.Lastly, here is the Kilrathi Goran heavy fighter. This model is slightly cursed because I had to do some tweaking to make it look generally like the artwork I had available. Then I realized at the end that I'd mismodeled the back end of the ship, and that it needed vertical fins. I fixed as I could.
My current goal is to go in and model all of the Kilrathi and Confed ships from Wing Commander Armada and release them over the course of the next two Patreon releases, mixed in with some other Star Trek and Babylon 5 units. There will also be some #VBAM units slipping in there, as I work on more art.Pardon the harsh lighting, but some 3d print tests of some #WingCommander Armada ships and fighters. The Dralthi (0712) and Jrathek (0713) both need to be increased in size, and I think the Wraith (0612) needs to be a bit smaller. Otherwise, I think this was a pretty successful test! (Skeet)
I'll reprint the fighters that I think need adjusted tomorrow, then try to dial in the sizes. I also notice the Gladius isn't in the shot. Sigh. I'll have to take a pic of them again once I get them all primed and painted! And here are some additional images posted to the CIC Discord:
And here are some Babylon 5 ships with some Wing Commander fighters in the periphery...
