Display MoreWhile the original Mass Effect game had a lot of good things going for it, the title also had its fair share of quirks. One of the more divisive aspects of the BioWare title is that, instead of loading screens, players were subjected to extremely long elevator rides punctuated with the occasional looping jokes, witty banter, or simple awkward silence. The upcoming Mass Effect Legendary Edition actually keeps every bit of those enjoyable conversations in the game, though it does so while drastically cutting down on load times.
As reported by Game Informer, the upcoming Mass Effect Legendary Edition significantly reduces the time players will spend in elevators in the first game. According to a side-by-side video comparison the original elevator wait times averaged out at about a minute, while the remaster drops the wait time down to around 14 seconds. So, does that mean you’ll miss out on the banter because the elevator doors open too quickly? Nope! “At a certain point the level loads in and you can choose whether or not you want to skip the rest of the banter, the news feed, or the awkward silence,” BioWare’s Kevin Meek reveals.
The load times are obviously hard drive dependent but with this part, I went in and was out in 14 seconds and I’m halfway across the bridge by the time it took Shepard to get out of the elevator in the original trilogy.”
It deserves mentioning of course that these load times will still vary depending on consoles and one’s PC setup, though all-around these elevator rides should be significantly smaller in length while still being quite enjoyable for those of us that would like nothing better than to stand around in a steel container listening to pre-calibrations Garrus.
Mass Effect Legendary Edition releases on May 14th for PC through Steam and Origin, PS4, and Xbox One. The title will be forward-compatible with PS5 and Xbox Series X.
