Display MoreWhile parts of the Mass Effect Trilogy are fairly divisive among fans, there is one near-constant for those that have played the original game: the drivable Mako vehicle kinda sucks. Everything from the Mako’s controls to its camera to its weapon system and handling leave quite a bit to be desired, something the folks at BioWare have taken into account for the upcoming release of Mass Effect Legendary Edition. That’s right, the Mako is finally getting fixed.
Earlier today, the Mass Effect Legendary Edition received a new trailer showing off the title’s official release date. Since then, new reports have come in revealing all that’s changed between the original trilogy and the Legendary Edition, with the first game in the series getting the most work done to it given its age. As reported by Game Informer, among these fixes are some much-needed improvements to the Mako.
According to GI’s coverage, the Mako will feature improved physics that will make the vehicle’s handling significantly more tolerable, with BioWare implementing an alternative control scheme so that players can toggle between the “camera-centric controls and the Mako-centric controls.” The Mako’s improved handling also extends to the vehicle’s weapon control, which will make shooting baddies from the relative safety of the Mako that much easier.
Those playing through the first game of the Mass Effect Legendary Edition will find that there’s reason enough to spend a lot of time in the Mako. “The footprints of every level are quite large, but they’re also somewhat sparse,” project director Mac Walters explained to GI. “Part of that was the beauty of it – going out and finding these locations that had that sort of stark beauty to them. But at the same time, you couldn’t also help but feel like they could be a little bit more fleshed out.”
Mass Effect Legendary Edition releases on May 14th for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and PS5 & Xbox Series X.
