Display MoreEver since 2017’s Mass Effect: Andromeda failed to make an impression with fans, a new full game entry hasn’t exactly been in the cards, at least for the time being. In the meantime, developer BioWare has assured continuance of the series in one form or another, whether it be through fabulous merchandise or the introduction of new story-expanding novels. However, it appears this hiatus has now ended as a new report suggests an all new Mass Effect game has finally entered development.
According to Kotaku (h/t Prima Games), the new galaxy-spanning entry is currently in “very early development” by the main BioWare studio in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The outlet reports that longtime BioWare figure Mike Gamble is heading the project as game director, following his notable role as producer for the Mass Effect trilogy and more recently with Andromeda, Anthem, and the upcoming Dragon Age 4.
Despite the perception that the Mass Effect series is “dead,” BioWare has repeatedly suggested otherwise with the release of periodic DLC goodies and outright voicing a dedication to the series’ eventual continuation. A new Mass Effect game would admittedly have much to prove before getting the majority of fans on board, but if the studio’s reported mission to revive Anthem is any indication, it’s possible this next entry might be what the series needs to get back on track–whether it follows up Andromeda or introduces a new story altogether.
