Styx Class Heavy Cruiser - Long Range Engagement

Styx Class Battlecruiser is one of Chaos battlecruiser options in Battlefleet Gothic Armada. Like most Chaos vessels, it is moderately fast and armored.

One of the main appeal points of Styx Class battlecruisers is that all of its weapons have at least 270 degree field of fire. In place of broadside weapon batteries of its peers, Styx Class carries a (battleship grade) set of launch bays for attack craft, which can attack the enemy vessels as long as they are within range (effectively having 360 degree field of fire). To back it up, Styx Class carries a set of spinal-mounted weapons, including two Lance Turrets. And since it's a Chaos ship, these lances can have their range bumped to 15 km (the longest range weapons in the whole game besides torpedoes).

  • The actual downside is that Styx class has little firepower on its own. But it has as many launch bays as a Despoiler or Emperor class battleship has. Now while Ordnance Squadrons have their own drawbacks, there are situations when they come handy. Particularly against Eldar (who even have a skill allowing them to summon a fighter squadron available for any ship).

  • These ships really looks terryfying :) . For mentioned ranges of weapons: is there damage difference with increased distance and/or jitter in BGA?

    • The macrocannons lose accuracy with distance, which is pretty much equivalent to damage decrease (macrocannons usually have multiple barrels). But lances remain accurate at any range.

At least so far, I have an old version so I'm not sure about them new races coming with DLCs.

Also, they don't just look terrifying, their ships sometimes emit infernal screeching. IIRC that's their missile pods (which Styx class is equipped with; but it's quite dinky; the missile pods are considered Macrocannons and are main weapon of Chaos Escorts).
