Simple Mod Version 3. Now we are cheating if we want to!

The Zip file Simple3.zip contains:

Instructions.txt
Weapons.doc (List of all modified weapons)
market_misc.ini
weapon_equip.ini
weapon_good.ini
constants.ini

!!!!!Read this entire document before making any changes!!!!!

Here's something simple for people who love FreeLancer and would like to improve it, but do not have the tools/background to hack files. It's can be just a little cheat, but can be a bigger one if you want. These are replacement files ready to go. Thanks to those who sent feedback on the first two versions.

How to install these files: (Please note that I am running Windows 2000 Professional, Win 98 installs may differ.)

>>>>> FIRST, note that installation of Freelancer creates TWO "Freelancer" folders on your system! <<<<<

FOLDER 1 The Saved Game folder (This is not the one you are looking for!)
This folder is automatically created as a subfolder in your "My Documents" Folder. A "My Games" folder contains a "Freelancer" subfolder that contains all your saved game files, both single player and multiplayer. This folder is NOT the one you are looking for.

FOLDER 2 The Game Files folder (THIS IS THE ONE!)
The other "Freelancer" folder is where the game files are installed. It is usually installed as a subfolder of the "Program Files" folder on Drive C:. You may have specified a different folder during installation. No matter where you have placed the "Freelancer" Game Files folder, it will contain 3 subfolders: "DATA", "DLLS", and "EXE". When you find this "Freelancer" folder, open it. You will see the "DATA" subfolder. Open that and you will see more subfolders and some .ini files.

Installing the optional "constants.ini" file:
When you open the "DATA" subfolder, the file "constants.ini" among others.
If you want to use the included replacement file (read what it does below) then rename the existing file as follows:

constants.ini to constants.ini.original

You will get a warning message when you attempt to do this. Just ignore it. Now copy the included "constants.ini" file into that directory.

Installing the other files:
In the "DATA" folder you will find, among other folders, the "EQUIPMENT" subfolder. Open that folder and you will find a group of .ini files, including "market_misc.ini", "weapon_equip.ini", and "weapon_good.ini" among others.
Rename the existing files that you will be replacing as follows:

market_misc.ini to market_misc.ini.original
weapon_equip.ini to weapon_equip.ini.original
weapon_good.ini to weapon_good.ini.original

You will get a warning message when you attempt to do this. Just ignore it. Now copy the included files into that directory. That's it.

So to recap:

1. Rename your original files FIRST. You might want them back!
2. Copy the included "constants.ini file into the "Freelancer/Data" folder if you plan to use it.
3. Copy the other included files into the "Freelancer/Data/Equipment" folder.

HERE IS WHAT IT DOES:

On Planet Manhattan in the New York System:
You will see a "showcase" of ALL mountable weapons and equipment available in the game. Planet Manhattan is where you end up after finishing the missions. You must have the appropriate ship and be at the appropriate level in order to purchase these items. After finishing the missions, you will not be at the required level but this "showcase" will allow you to see what's out there.

On Planet Crete in the Omicron Gamma System and on Planet Malta in the Omicron Alpha system:
You will be able to purchase all mountable weapons of Class 8 or greater and ammo for all weapons regardless of class. Included are the Nomad weapons, all the Special weapons, all class 10 shields, and even a couple of weapons the designers declared but forgot to use! Again, you must have the appropriate ship and be at the appropriate level in order to purchase these items. I selected these bases because they are the most difficult to get to.

In Version 3 graphics problems with Nomad weapons have been corrected. Some Nomad weapons have been re-tweaked again for performance. The Nomad Cruise Disruptor is available and working now. The Cannonball missle has been tweaked for performance.

Changes in Version 3:

1. An optional tweaked version of "constants.ini" that increases cruise speed to 900 and ammo capacity to 200. You do not have to install this file for the other changes to work. Note that if you use this file, the speed indicator in your hud will still only register 300 when in cruise mode, but you will be traveling at 900. Thanks to Kieth of Lancer's Reactor for this tweak.

2. Nomad weapons mounted and fired but did not appear as graphics on ship hardpoints. Weapons fire appeared to be coming from empty hardpoints. This has been fixed.

3. Some weapons were not "classed". In particular, some un-classed Nomad weapons would mount on any hardpoint. This has been fixed.

4. Fixed the Nomad Cruise Disruptor. Found that it does not use ammo. It uses energy. The only Nomad weapon to do so in the original game.

5. Re-tweaked three Nomad weapons designed to be used as a set for those who just like to kill ships. These three weapons are the Nomad Turret Class 8, the Nomad Prototype Class 10, and the Nomad Lazer Class 9. Theses weapons can be indentified by price. They are all $136,450. If you are flying the Sabre, use the Turret. IF you are flying the Titan or the Eagle, don't bother with the turret. If you would like a forward firing turret on the Titan or the Eagle, there is a Mod availble on the Lancer's Reactor site that repositions the turret hardpoints on both these ships so that they have forward firing turrets. I have not tested this ship Mod. I am only making you aware that it exists.

6. Tweaked the Nomad Lazer Class 10 and priced it at $236,450. This weapon is designed to be used in a pair only and is for those who like a gut wrenching challenge. Two of these used ALONE will knock down just about anything with two shots, one to eliminate the shields and one to kill the hull. The catch is that they use a LOT of energy. The refire rate is 2.00, but you can only fire them once or twice before allowing your energy to recharge. The range is 2500 and the velocity is 4000 so you have to be VERY accurate in your aiming to hit anything. Better have your mouse in order before trying a pair of these. Mounting more than 2 will result in nothing firing for a long time after the first shot.

7. Tweaked the firing graphics on some of the above tweaked weapons. Borrowed graphics effects from the Class 10 special weapons.

8. Tweaked the Cannonball missle Class 9 and priced it at $336450. This missle is designed to be used in a pair with a pair of the tweaked Nomad Class 10 $236,540 Lazer for those who just like to kill ships but like to use missles too. A pair of these missles, when fired with a pair of those Lazers will kill anything with one shot. Also the price of the Cannonball ammo has been drastically cut so you can afford to use them.

NOTE: The Nomad Laser Class 9, The Nomad Prototype Class 10, and the Nomad Turret Class 8 have been tweaked so that firing rates, speeds, and ranges match. This insures that your target reticule is completely accurate when using this weapon set. Mounting weapons with different firing rates causes the reticule to "average" the aimpoint, giving only an approximation of where to aim. These tweaks also make this particular set DEVASTATING.
