The more time you will spent in small ships, the better for you. It allows learn how this game works with zero (for sidey) or small fee (insurance payment) in case you do some of starting issues (you as pilot are the biggest danger for your ship). For starting you can use this guide and also ED wiki here on portal. Some info may be not perfectly accurate or outdated/incomplete, but this game still evolves. That's OK, I also from time to time use keys from other sellers. But still, personally, I prefer use of direct buy from Steam (or game studio) in cases I know will play a game for long time. Very likely my doubts about 3rd party keys are irrational, but this is my personal view. I also have doubts that you can refund that 3rd party key purchase in case that game or DLC not works well on your PC, ... and in case of Odyssey is obvious that it have bigger hardware needs despite Frontier enormous effort improve game engine performance (game performance was visible improved already and patch 10 was released few days ago, but even more should come).
