Mass Effect: Andromeda has been out in the wild for a few weeks now and has generally been giving players a fun return to the franchise. While the feedback has been moderately positive, one of the most talked about gripes and fixation for internet jokery, has been the less-than-stellar facial animations and character movements that were present among the game’s main characters at different points of the game’s release. While it seems that the most dissonant animations and expressions in the game seem to have been fixed, many fans have been wondering about the trajectory that led them into the game in the first place. Well, one animator has shown off some Mass Effect: Andromeda early animations which may show the original visual intentions for the game. Check out the sample below:
Mass Effect: Andromeda senior cinematic animator Tal Peleg has posted a video sharing early work that was produced as the project was underway and the differences between this and the final project are somewhat stunning. The animations seen in the video are quite clear and sync rather well with the spoken dialogue. However, it should be noted that this early footage contains very scripted dialogue, which is much easier to accurately animate considering that the final version in the game will have to vary based on player choices affecting the dialogue spoken.
Another very likely reason for the rough animations in the final game could be the release schedule for the game. The game may well have been scheduled for release in March 2017 to fit into the final quarter of EA’s fiscal year when the studio may have hoped for more time to perfect the animations. Either way, it seems that BioWare will do their best to continue to clean up the game as much as possible. What do you guys think about these Mass Effect: Andromeda early animations?
