  • Place for screenshots, videos, interesting links. Horizons are now in Beta, but some stuff I found is really nice.

  • This one is imo really good!

  • Horizons and 1.5 launch - Servers offline

Direct link to DB reddit: David Braben - Ask Me Anything : EliteDangerous

  • Just small advice/hint: could be good idea for first looks around use CobraMkIII. It seems like more things changed/were adjusted and this also for NPCs behaviour. Have extra speed on your side (and also low insurance payment) can come handy :) ... especially for smuggling missions.

... Myself will do this for sure this weekend when will have 1st chance play Horizons :)

  • OK, get my hands on Horizons and it is really nice :) ... 1st what I recommend is download new launcher from your Frontier account and let him install/download Horizons 64bit. I purposely put away Steam install as I read it want do upgrade first to 32bit version and so on. Now is game installed on new place and works very very smoothly on full HD and I have only GTX960 and old Phenom CPU ... it works imo much better as 1.4 version and problem with fps drop in super-cruise is simply gone ... have capped fps on 60 and game keeps 63-64 fps practically all the time. Was added more new missions types, which imo looks promising but have some issues (very likely timer). But nothing really serious. Planet approach need some own experience to spare time but works smoothly and also on ground I have 50-60 fps. Will upload some new screenshots later. Overall I think that FDev did huge amount of work on Horizons and also in case that player want stick with ED 1.5, then smooth game functioning is considerable update.

  • my first day back, yesterday
... and i was completely lost

almost no trading or smuggling mission around anymore
the only smuggling mission i could find failed because i was scanned (that never happened to me before)

the remaining missions are more like "fly to system x and wait there for 1 hour for something eventually to happen"
i tried 6-7 missions yesterday and except one (a simply trading mission for lousy 40k credits) all missions failed

smuggling mission failed (eventhough i was running silent)
2 missions failed and i have no idea why
1 mission told me to rescue hostages in a system at a specific time so i went there... found that ship that was mentioned in the mission description... tried to interdict this guy... failed to interdict because the interdictor simply didnt work at all (I was right behind the target... i was in range... I had the weapon group active with the interdictor... and i pressed fire button without anything to happen)...
at this point i have no idea what i am doing wrong... i did so many interdictions in the past... dunno
however, my target eventually dropped out of cruise so i engaged that ship.... the ship dropped the cargo... but it was not the mission cargo... wtf?!?... 1 hour work for nothing

... i watched TV then (that was more satisfying)

Only dead fish swim with the stream.
Don't discuss with idiots. They only drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience there.

  • There were alot changes from 1.4. One from threads which can be good to read (smuggler wise) for info are here:

    Experienced Smugglers: submit or run?
    Need advice - smuggling
Smuggling without silent running & heat sinks
    Silent Running Problems
What did I do wrong? (Shadow smuggle fail)
In general can be said that simple silent running is no longer "sure" way how to dealt with scans, silent running not make you "invisible", it only reduce your temperature signature. What deal with scans is "break line of sight", speed and taking distance. NPCs (as also players) can scan you only when you are in-front of them and on certain distance only. I can check again how this works in detail, because I not needed (not had time) do these missions -> atm I'm more oriented on fight at compromised beacons, combat zones or do mining (or patrol against griefers, pirates around starting/commonly visited systems). Regarding the same NPC chasing you on high paid smuggle runs (Sotis, Robigo, Maia etc.) were mentioned guides how to dealt with them. I remember only that one which was linked with interdiction. Submit, head towards him and use time he need to turn to take distance and continue unless he is out of scanner_ range. Then he should not re-appear again. On FD forums was alot crying how is not possible smuggle anymore and almost in the same time there were given guides from players which found ways how to smuggle effectively with adaptation on new conditions. I do not want argue if such change(s) were done in good direction or bad, but there for sure still is possible to successfully smuggle. Maybe @Moorhuhn will have some more additional info regarding this. I can for sure say that you need to search for info how to do some things on ED if it looks that you can not find proper way yourself, it may be seen as very bad behaviour ... which again I not want argue about (myself have no issue with this).

... and I will mention one more change which was done: it is related to use shield banks. They when used produce big amount of heat, so have some heat-sinks definitely come handy. On other side heat-sinks works now better as before so its not bad have them in all cases.

For combat info: with Vulture you can easily pick which targets you want fight at compromised beacons and make nice moneys from killing "wanted". Prices reward vary from 6-200K per kill. This payment can be even bigger when player engage in power-play. But in this I so far have no experience ... but I'm going in this direction and will post guide(s) once have own experience in this area. One from possible Vulture load-outs here: http://coriolis.io/outfit/vult…gsJBmSCYe4MJA=?bn=Vulture (with 15% discount - Li Yong-Rui Controlled and Exploited systems)

  • Yes, smuggling missions were nerfed because too many players complained about them beeing too easy.
You now fail the mission when scanned, not only a small fine way under your profit.

However, the old "submit-silent-boost-boost-sink-jump" still works perfectly for me. You should have a fast enough ship to gain distance to the scanning ship. When entering stations, same principle... combination of silent/boost/sink. And yes, they scan a lot more now due to abovementioned reason... -.-

When in need of money (seldom, as I still have much fun with Asp and DBS), I do either bounty-hunting in RES, mining or long-range-smuggles*. The normal missions I only use for reputation and rank with the factions.

Some of the new missions of 1.5 I never done myself, so can't tell exactly how they work, sry... need to test some day... ;)

I interdicted 4 Cmdrs yesterday without any issues(?) (was a 3A-Interdictor, i think...)

    * they go over 400LY and you have interdictors/scanners on your back - so a bit high-risk/high-reward

Edited once, last by Moorhuhn ().

  • Mission as I understand them are for:

    • manipulate with minor factions (background simulation)
    • getting rank for federation/empire
    • improve profit for ongoing activities (like killing pirates in some system, or acquire minerals or commodities)

Bigger moneys are involved with higher trade rank and in case there are smuggling mission from systems on "buble" border. Also myself need to test more these newly added missions, but there were reports about issues (in some cases mission ended earlier as was given by timer) ... I expect they will be addressed with next patch.

  • everything is too complicated and nowhere the game explains how stuff works

the majority of missions are time gated now which prevents me from doing them at all since i never know how long i can stay online
next to that is my ambition to wait half an hour for a mission to start very low

    bounty hunting... yes maybe
but only between the missions... but hey... i cant interdict anymore so its no option any longer

  • Interdiction: have you interdictor powered and in active weapons group? I last time interdicted players with 2A i think.

For rare/limited time could work best rares trading or/and bounties hunting (compromised beacon) or involve in some combat zone. These last two offers all-time action and you can leave practically anytime.

You not need to do missions at all unless want some ship restricted by federal/imperium rank.

... myself suggest give missions time, there for sure will come patches. And then can be investigated.

Keravices have compromised beacon and I can check for more of them, almost sure there is thread on FD with 'list'.

  • a3 interdictor if i remember correctly
    its powered
    its in weapon group 2
    secondary fire button

i was behind the target... i had weapon group 2 active... I was in range (otherwise it would display "not in range"... and im damn sure that secondary fire works

and well.... i am playing mission and doing bounty hunts (well i did in the past) in order to gain new ranks with the factions
that is the only thing that motivated me to play

just like huor i really have problems to find a good motivation to play

  • If interdictor not want work, maybe ask or report bug on FD forum? Could be there is simple answer to this.

  • todays experience:
took a mission to kill somebody at a specific time
    ...
cant find any ingame clock outside space docks... which makes it tricky to do such missions at all since my local time is apparently not the same time as the game time
found the target... and dropped the missions since this lousy 50k mission was about killing an anaconda + a large wing of escorts

then i took a smuggler mission
5ls before reaching the target station i got interdicted and could not evade it no matter how hard i tried
i managed to escape without being scanned
    headed to the station...
inside the dock all of a sudden i was scanned.... couldnt avoid it... and then i got fined

    pretty much every mission fails
    going to watch tv again
