  • Since it is not the easiest understand what all these icons on Bulletin Board means (especially when your English is not the best one), table below can come handy ...

    01Courier.jpg Courier Run

Rank requirement: exploration. Player has to deliver to a certain system/station something that does not require cargo space. These missions usually have short expiration (under an hour). Not highly paid missions but you don’t have to have any cargo space to do them.

    02FreightRun.jpg Freight Run

Rank requirement: trade. Player has to pick up some cargo at this station and bring it to another station. Pays better than just buying/selling and does not require initial investment.

    03SmugglingRun.jpg Smuggling Run

Rank requirement: trade. Player has to pick up some cargo and bring it to another station. Cargo is usually illegal at both ends, and it’s best to avoid being scanned by the police. Ideally these missions should be done from an outpost to an outpost, in which case you’ll be paid very handsomely just for flying from point A to point B.

    04DeliveringM.jpg Delivering Mission

A peculiar type, directed mainly to the traders. The station orders a specific commodity which has to be delivered in the specified time period. It is up for the player how he gets the commodity, it just has to be legal.

    05Charity.jpg Charity

Pay a certain amount of money or donate specific goods to increase the issuing faction's influence and earn lots of reputation with them.

    06LootM.jpg Loot Mission

This type requires from a player to loot a specific star system in order to find a specific goods. They are always appear in the "Unidentified Signal Source" (USS) area. This activity is considered illegal (because cargo doesn't belong to you), thus the goods have to be smuggled.

    10MininingM_1.jpg Mining Mission

Similar to a shopping run, you're to travel to a Resource Extraction Source (RES) or other asteroid-laden location, mine the requested ore, and return it. Mission is nicely paid and usually offered on bases in High-Tech systems. You will need some special equipment for this (mining laser and refinery). More details about mining please look for link given in post below.

    07MercenaryM.jpg Mercenary Missions

Requires from a player to annihilate specific amount of ships of some kind: pirate, hunter police etc. Its legality depends of the kind of the pointed target (i.e. may be an illegal act in that jurisdiction).

    08AssassinationM.jpg Assassination Missions

Find an NPC with a specific name and destroy their ship. The target may have armed escorts. Usually it requires from a player to destroy a unique, powerful NPC ship(s). Is advised to have strong and very well equipped ship for these types of missions.

    09Piracy.jpg Piracy

Acquire the requested goods by stealing them from other ships. You can do this by dropping their shields and either launching hatch-breaker limpets, or by targeting their cargo bay. NOTE: The goods must be indicated as stolen to be counted.

    11PermissionA.jpg Permission Acquisitions

This type of "missions" is a reward for increase of the reputation in the eyes of a specific fraction. It grants you a permission which will enable you to enter the previously locked locations, thus giving you more opportunities to acquire better missions.

If you want give a try for some easier combat mission, then go for Mercenary Missions. Equip on your ship Kill Warrant Scanner_ (KWS) and check description (if its against pirates, all OK). When you arrive to mission system, look if right there are not some rats .. they tends to scan you and after attack .. or you can scan them (you need to have ship in front of yours to scan it) and if see a bounty on them, they are exactly what your are searching for. If there is more of them and your shield get damage too quickly ... RUN, there is not possible win every fight, specially if you only started and did your first combat mission. If you flee from "too much hostile NPCs" .. best push thrust in moment when they just passed you in opposite direction. In quick ship like Cobra_mk3 is you should not have problem, if you put all 4 pips (energy) into engines. Pirates can be then easily find in USS (Unidentified Signal Source) zones or other zones you will see on ship cockpit hud when go to bases or planets ... simply check(aim) this zone and leave supercruise (SC) like when you are heading to bases.

p.s. Fragment Cannons need some time with pressed fire key till they "fire" ... on close they are devastating and also good as training for use fixed weapons.

p.s.2: to finish this type mission you need to return to base where you got this job (and check Bulletin Board).
