yes they are dockable and yes there are some bases/planets that you can't dock on

@prkchps330 Check the Wiki for all the info you need about the trains. Best bang for the buck is the Soulforge. Have fun and good luck!

I have read the wiki and it does not specify docking limitations. WHat planets/places can the train not dock? IS there a general rule-of-thumb? -
See PM I sent you. Warning, it contains spoilers.

There is some general rule: all planets, bases with mooring fixture and big bases.
Big bases have specific central part like Newark station, Fort Bush, West Point Academy or Shinjuku station and Aomori station.
Then exist very few exceptions for dock on small stations like is for example one base in Hokkaido.
Bases with mooring fixture are 4 bases in X-3043.
... its for exploration. Trains (soulforge train) can be very good used for make money
Train_ type ships (included liners, transports) have 75 (if I counted right) bases available for dock which are almost all (purposely) in Sirius Sector. And still ... in multiplayer can be made really fast if you will cooperate with someone using smaller ship capable dock on small stations (like mining ship or APC)
Added info about docking for this ship type into wiki: https://swat-portal.com/forum/…rossfire/ships/#transport

Most dockable locations for trains are large bases and some planets in vanilla FL systems, and the large bases around the X systems.
there are only 2 dockable places for trains outside of Sirius sector: -
So to trade at an "unmoorable" station I would have to have two accounts? One train account and a second account (with different MP ID) as a shuttle account (to station/fromtrain )?
IS using two different mulitplayer ID'S from the same IP against the rules?
What IS that the general strategy for train traders that are unguilded or do not know anyone they can trust for shuttling?

yup, only 1 account online.
There are probably other traders online, find a friend
Just write players in chat and ask for a cooperation
(IOC) ships will probably ask for an illegal trade route -
Trains_ can work quite well also solo and this even in case you do not know any good trading routes for this day ... simply load containers ... its "equipment" ... on Sol buy 6x Cobalt Container, sell on Planet New London, there buy 6x Titanium Container and sell them on Plantet Manhattan in New York ... and you have almost 10M profit (for soulforge train).

there is no "general strategy" except, what the Fox said: find friends as long as u don't have friends u can buy support, i mean, u can hire merces. here an example for trustworthy merces:

Just remember to dock at a shipyard every major House system. You have to go through customs every time you change houses. Generally anything bigger than an Armored transport must be cleared to operate in a given territory. Some houses offer "expedited" screening for a fee...usually offered as a low-key service *wink wink*

I am interested in stepping up to a train. I am leaning toward a Scouser because I tend to work alone and, if I'm reading the wiki right, I'm not limited by to using containers. The Scouser appears shorter and less segmented than a train in the wiki. I've seen a battleship have a hard time navigating a debris field, thus I can imagine how stuck I could be trying to navigate a train through one. I have two questions.
1. The wiki indicates that there are only containers for raw elements, metals and compounds such as zinc, iridium and titanium leading me to think I would be limited to those trades. Can you load, transport and offload cargo such as diamonds, engine components or carmine using containers? The way the wiki reads, there Is no such a thing as an empty container.
2. The wiki says the Soulforge train has cargo space of 2500 units and can equip up to six containers, each being 400 units in capacity. Does that mean the 2500 units are separate from the containers; so I could conceivably load 2500 units of cardamine and six containers of zinc for a total of 4,900 units of combined cargo?
Many thanks, MM

hi Mandy
take the train, it can carry more commodities. and no, the Soultrain is not limited to the containers. in fact container trading is mostly less lucrative as commodity trading, especially if u trade on very short distances (i.e. planet New london - Waterloo Station - Thames Outpost). there are trade routes where u get up to 100 mill credits per hour. in CF 1.9 it was possible to load containers AND up to 5.000 units commodities, however this changed in 2.0. now u must choose: containers or commodities. (not exectly right. in reality u can take 3 containers but then u can carry only the half of the commodities.) what concerns navigating through debris or asteroid fields, this is just a matter of training and concentration. sometime it is harder, sometimes it's easy flying, depending on the field. -
Hello MM,
it seems you've got a wrong idea of what containers are, and how to use them. Please check this article: Cargo ContainerNote that the containers
1) are not put in your cargo but are mounted on your ship as pieces of equipment;
2) can only be mounted on trains (Scouser cannot mount them);
3) do not let you put any cargo into them (they already come full);
4) do not increase your cargo capacity, but reduce it (-400 per container);
5) allow you to have good profit (~1 mill per container per run) every day (because the routes are fixed).You can always use a train without containers and have 2500 cargo holds available for goods (whereas with 6 containers equipped you will have only 100 spare cargo holds); on Scouser you cannot use containers at all, so in this respect Scouser is more limited. Navigating a train through asteroids can be difficult sometimes ("trainball" happens), but a train never gets stuck (unlike some battleships). I don't have any experience with Scouser - it might be better than trains, or might as well be unflyable like those bugged battleships. If you get one, you will soon find out
Hope this helps.

Thanks denne & Wanderer;
I appreciate your quick replies. I just found this thread; soulfroge train which explains some of what you indicated but it's not as detailed as your posts. Based on your advice though, I think I'll buy the Soulforge; but given it's size and limited maneuverability I think I will seek out most of its additional equipment (armor, power, weapons) before I buy it.
Cudos to you both, MM

To quote Edison Trent, "Good to know" Ringotwin, thanks. I was doing pretty good on the rep thing until I came to the aid of a player last night. Now the Rogues, Lane Hackers, Junkers, Outcasts, Xenos and Corsairs all hate my guts, not to mention the factions who hate everyone's guts like the Molly's and Unioners. I think I might have to put off getting the train until my rep is a little more neutral; like you said. In the vanilla game I usually do that by taking jobs for the GC's but this time I'll take a look at the guide I saw in this forum. Many thanks, MM

But Diablo's guide is a pain to do Here it is:https://swat-portal.com/forum/…/reputation/#a-autoMark_3https://swat-portal.com/forum/…/reputation/#a-autoMark_3
There are much easier ways, e.g. this one https://swat-portal.com/forum/…ire/advices/#a-autoMark_6 or this one: Neutral Character or 3rd one: buy Junkers bribe at Rochester, destroy some Xenos' depots in Inner Cloud to fix the rest of criminals, and then destroy some Police Depots near Manhattan to fix Xenos
