Problems Installing Crossfire 2.0

Hello. I've been trying to install Crossfire 2.0 for the past 3-or-so days. I keep getting this error after patching with the launcher:

[x]:Crossfire Crash Exit - CODE ffffffffc0000005 [E000000D3]

Even worse, the error appears regardless of whether or not I patch the game.

I checked the other threads about this error, but their solutions have not worked for me. I am fairly certain I have installed the mod correctly, having read and performed the instructions (both on the forum and included in the download) numerous times. Vanilla freelancer, as well as other mods such as Discovery, work without any issues at all. Disabling Antivirus/Firewall and permitting Freelancer both do nothing.

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for the quick response!

I have tried using the Freelancer.exe and LauncherUpdater.exe provided in the release, but the error still appears when I try to launch the game.

To clarify, the problem appears when I click SINGLE PLAYER or MULTI PLAYER in the launcher. After it does its normal 11 patches, it brings up the error message briefly, then says "CROSSFIRE WAS CLOSED".

If I remember correctly from an other thread this error is memory read/write problem.

Have you removed the write protection from the Freelancer intsllation foldersS and some of the .exe files?

Often just disabling the AV/Firewall is not enough. Dunno what you gave permissions to work in your security-suite, but try to exclude all the Freelancer folders and .exe (esp. Freelancer.exe and LauncherUpdater.exe) and from any kind of attention of it.
Oh, and don't forget to set the Windows UAC (User Account Control) properly.

If you don't see it yet, maybe a look or two into this

might help and give you a clue.

Removed write protection from everything in the Freelancer folder. Problem persists.

On the topic of antivirus/firewall preventing the game from working - I saw the launcher's UDP traffic getting blocked and unblocked it, but the game still crashes on startup.

I'm not sure I've done the permissions right, your setup guide mentioned you did a guide for Norton under the FAQs, but I looked around the site and could not find it under the FAQ. Can you link me to the guide?

aww ... another Norton case? ... ( my personal estimate is that 3/5 users which really had issues get running CF were using this awesome antivirus suite )

@Martind Forlon ... well Norton's not too bad as a security suite ... once you figured, how to convince it to do what you want, ... even if you have it as a 3rd party give-away and no customer support, like me

Luckily there were some noob nerds who figured it out for the ones in need
